1995 Eclipse GS question

Hello all. Just purchase a 1995 Eclipse GS(not modded) and need some help. First off, the tranny makes a whining noise, specially when you stomp on it from stop. Can be heard through 2nd gear but not able to tell after that. was wondering if it would be cheaper to rebuild(around $800) or should i take a chance on a tranny i found on CL for only $300 with $525 going for labor to replace it. it has minor issues besides that, as in low coolant light is on and front turn signals don't work. Im gonna get into it a little tomorow and see what i can see.

Last question is, what is the best cat-back system i can get cheap??(under $350...if possible) or best mod/upgrade i can do for $350 or less. Thanks for looking!!

As far as the transmition, probably better to do the rebuild than take somebody's word on CL. For the exhaust there is

The link you provided is for a GST and is a 3". You have a GS and should use max 2.5". There are many threads that discuss this. The 420a motor needs more back pressure than the 3" provides. The 3" is used on the turbo models as they need more air.

Have a 3 inch catback on my Eclipse with regular catconverer and it runs fine..Never runs out of breathe..

Well local shop tells me its the input drive shaft bearings going out, $350 to take out tranny and make sure what the problem is and total of almost $800 for fix.

OK so i took the car out of his shop and want to get a used/rebuilt tranny, where is the cheapest place to get one?? any ideas?

Junk yard I'd assume. But you could always have a look at the Classifieds when you meet the requirements.
