Hi I just recently rebuilt my 1995 Eclipse GS. So anyway I was wondering if it would be worth it to save up some cash and buy a turbo for it. The reason being is that my friend has a 2000 Trans am WS6 that runs 12.5's. This probably sounds retarded but I want to heavily modify my Eclipse to beat his Trans am. I really do not know much about the engines and upgrades for these cars. All I know is Cold Air Intake really blows if you don't have the bypass value in it and you go threw water, hence the reason the car has been rebuilt. Any way as of right now the car is totally stock besides the Wings West front bumper, the 17 inch Sport Edition rims, and the Eibach lowering springs. So any help on making this Eclipse extremely fast would be greatly appreciated.

Making a n/t "extremely fast" would be difficult without a lot $. It would be MUCH cheaper to get a GSX or TSi AWD if you wanted to be faster than 12.5 in the 1/4 mile.

yea, dont even bother with your car. Going to be cheaper and alot eaiser to buy a gsx or something

ok shut the hell up. stop telling people "might as well get a gst/x", cause if you want to say that, then im gonna tell you "might as well get a viper" then.

second, a n/t can be made to be just as fast as a gst(or gsx but without the awd abilities), but its gonna cost. and to make a n/t have 12 second time slips(ws6 territory) is going to take ALOT of time, work and money.

you will need to build up the engine, which parts alone are 2-3k. then you will need to purchase the turbo kit, which is around 3k. then you will need something to tune it with, be it a safc or something wild like megasquirt and spark(advanced stuff) since dsmlink currently doesnt have anything for n/t guys. not to mention all the little miscellaneous shit that adds up fast(motor mounts, exhaust, etc). now your tranny's gonna need some stuff done, clutch isnt gonna last long under 300+hp conditions, youll need a good clutch, i would recommend act but i dont think they have any n/t applications. i am sure exedy and clutchmasters do though. this will be around 300 for clutch, if you want a lightweight flywheel, another 300 and then 300 if you need them installed(unless you can do it yourself). if youre automatic, expect another 1500 in parts before labor. youll need a high stall torque convertor, shift kit, end clutches, possibly better valve body, and bigger tranny cooler. oh if you want traction off the line, nows the time to throw down 1000 bucks for a quaife LSD while the tranny is out.

now we might be a little closer to that 12 second goal, depending on how well you drive, what boost youre running, how well its tuned, etc. so youre looking at around 9 grand. and the ws6 is still basically stock.

What up man, to be honest your best bet would be to take care of any problems with the car and sell it. Not to be mean but the GS/RS eclipses are not worth tuning. At a stock 142hp(as compared to the 210hp GST/GSX relatively) it would take too much money for it to be worth it to you. To make a GS run 12.5's you'd have to dump at somewhere in the ballpark of 5 G's into the engine alone. Even with a full exhaust, headers, intake, and a catback it would still cost about 1200 + labor (<400) to make it 160 hp. You'd still be gettin' hosed by stock V6's and any import with any work to it. Aside from that, it is still FWD like my car (97 GST 8K invested, should update my profile), 13.276@88mph and dropping) witch is a drwaback off the line. To achieve any kind of real horsepower you'd have to turbo it and remap your ECU, converting a GS like that is way too expensive. Bottom line you could dump 3 to 4 g's total in your car and it might be as fast as a stock GSX/GST. Trust me fix it sell and look into buying an older TSi Talon or a 90's GSX/GST. Who cares how many miles are on it any serious tuner should be planning to replace any part that would go at high mileage(fyi a rebuilt 4G63 turbo/tranny/block package goes for 1500-3000g's). I bought mine at 94K now with 125K and it runs 13s all day now and I haven't even strapped on a big turbo yet!!! Holset HX-35 you will be mine soon!!! :dsm: LOL

The money is not a big deal. I have 15g coming in pretty soon that I inherited. Also the Transam is not stock it has a chip, reprogramed computer, headers, intake, & other shit.

Dude not to go against what Thomas91169 said but if you have 15 g's on the way dont even think of investing all that money in your car..I could tell you that I drive a 95 GS and I've been thinking of turboing my car too but that's because I can obtain the parts at a cheaper cost but unless you have some emotional attachment to your car I would consider getting a GSX/TSI if you're really into beating your buddy..I mean think about it you could get a 2G TSI for about 6-7 G's with a moderate amount of miles or 2G GSX for about 7-12 g's (at least in my neck of the woods) and then throw 2 g's in it and be very happy you did it..But all in all that's just my .02

He makes good sense.

I agree. I just bought an a/t 97 gsx full options, nicely pampered and completely stock for under 6k. I am in the process of researching the engine on every aspect before I start ripping it apart. I figure I'll dump another 3-6k in it over the next 5 years and it should be a wonderful car. That's only 12k for a car that would hold it's own. Include your GS in trade and you are well on the road you want to be on.

I doubt you'll find someone out there who's a bigger die hard 2GNTer than I am, but I would even go so far as to suggest you truly take stock of your goals before investing any money in a 2GNT like that. Right now, you want to dump $15k into a mostly stock 2GNT so you can beat a buddy with a WS6. Nothing wrong with wanting to beat him, but keep in mind that it's going to take you a lot of time, money and practice to pull down that kind of time with a 2GNT. Then, when you match him (assuming he waits for you before modding his T/A), he'll drop a couple Gs into a charger kit and walk you. Then what?

I think you need to really think about what you want out of the car. Do you want a 12 second drag car (FWD is going to a bi*** to get traction with that kind of power) or would you rather have a killer street car that corners on rails and will still hold it's own at the strip. So what if his car, which has an engine almost three times the size of yours, is faster in the quarter?

If you are really attached to your DSM (as I am mine), then you would never think of selling it for anything, but if it's more important to you to run 12s, you're going to find a 4G63T car is going to make this more feasible. If nothing else, you could even find a nice 2G, build it and then have it repainted to look just like your current car.

Just some thoughts. Good luck with whatever you do, man.
