Anyone has any insights as to why the logger cable won't work on my car? It's a 1990 eagle tsi. The connections are correct. Using the MMCd I press "new" and uncheck "pause" but no values appear. I go to test mode and press "read" which displays "serial comm error". I purchased this cable from a member and was told he even tested. Is there something particular about 1990?

They should be the same. I'm using the same one in my 90 as my buddy used in his 92. Check your connections to the serial port and be sure they are hook up right. The black wire goes in the upper left corner, the other two, go into the lower right corner(One in the very bottom pin, and the other on the 3rd pin from the bottom). It doesn't matter which wire goes where just as long as they are on the right pins in the serial port.

I've used four separate 1G logging cables on my 1990 and all worked fine. I did have one crap out eventually and give me an error when connecting to the diag port.

Are you sure it's not a problem with your Palm? Are you using a "null modem" in between the logger cable and the Palm serial sync cable or is it an "all in one" datalogging cable? :dsm:

What is a null modem? My cable has 3 wires on one end and 9 pin male serial port on the other. I've opened the serial port end and its constructed w/ diodes. Also I've noticed on my palm the speed in the preference in MMCd was set @ 1920 instead of the 1953 listed on the MMCd site. I'm gonna try w/ the different speed setting tomorrow.

Mine has a default setting for the speed. Once mine wouldn't owrk and it turned out to be that so definately try that.

I still haven't had success getting this logger to work on my 90 talon. The ECU was repaired recently but that didn't affect anything. The test light I use to check for Problem codes works so I'm assuming the signal pin in the connector works. I had someone use their logger setup in my talon but that didn't work either. What could be the problem?

repaired ?? was is the stock one that came with the car? or a used one ??

it could be a used ECU from Japan, that have a different language so the datalogger can't read it.

The eprom Ecu is the original that came w/ the car. It was repaired for damages caused by a slight cap leak. The ecu was repaired for any damages associated w/the leak by dsmlink place.

oh i see, just point out something that might have been over look. The 1G have bad capacitor and most or all 1G ECU are dead by now. much like the 14Bs

To the OP, a "NULL" modem adapter is that 9-pin gender-changing adapter that goes in between the datalogger cable and the PALM hotsync cable. I'd had issues with one I got as part of a datalogging package (big greyish one), but bought a slim model off eBay that worked great.

Not sure what you mean, but a preventative maintenance regemine of pulling your ECU every 3-4years and checking the capaciters / for evidence of fluid loss will ensure your ECU lives a long healthy life. If you have a problem or want to make sure you're ok, send the ECU to STEVE to have it tested out (he's the DSM ECU hardware expert). My ECU is going on 18years and has had the caps replaced 2x :dsm:

Trying to say that all 1G ecu's have bad capacitors. No matter if its a Japanese ECU or U.S ECU. Yes! if you check it every couple of years you should be good. But for those who don't know about DSM they are going to get a big surprise.

this is where i gotten my information, from the guys from RRE and Zeitronix

Yeah, it is the null modem adapter. A gray plastic w/ trapezoid metal casing w/ pins inside. I 've tried 3 different logger cable but doesn't work.
