This is the first DSM i ever worked on. I got it with 155k miles on it and a torn timing belt. 8 intake valves were completely bent. I got the head professionally rebuilt for $400 and replaced basically every gasket in the engine bay. It would not run, so i determined the turbo was stuck; completely stuck. I took it apart and rebuilt it with heavy engine oil and it spins great now with very little play. The alternator was not charging the battery, so i replaced the battery and alternator because i didn't notice the 80 amp fuse was not only corroded, but blown as well. So, I spent $200 fixing a $4 problem. Oh well. I painted a bunch of things and replaced tons of bolts. I replaced the drooping headliner as well. It misfires at idle, and im guessing cause of the coilpack. But I have dumped way too much time and money into this thing already and i have school to worry about in a few weeks. I am thinking about selling it for $3000. It is a 5 speed manual. What do you think?

Clean car :thumb:

If you took any of the wheels off the shaft on the turbo, if you don't mark them and put them on the exact same way your turbo will not be balanced, causing it to fail within a short amount of time.

Replace the plugs and wires if you haven't already, and be sure to gap ALL the plugs between 0.028 to 0.031. If you went by the 90 shop manual the gaps are not listed correctly, the turbo and non turbo gaps were swapped.

It's your call, DSM's will be great cars if you take care of them which it seems you are :thumb: but sometimes things just happen. School first.

thanks. yeah i did all the plugs and wires and gapped them to .03. when i rebuilt the turbo i forgot to mark it so i will get it rebalanced if i keep it or tell whoever buys it that it needs to be done.

ive been working on the car every day for 2 months, so i kept the cover off so i could see what was going on and make sure all the belts were spinning appropriately. i'de rather get some dirt on the timing belt than miss it when it starts malfunctioning. trust me, the cover will be re-applied at a moment's notice

Its not the dirt that you need to watch out for with the cover off it's anything that may fall into the timing belt area. Its a bit risky to run without it but on a plus note that car is clean and you should have no problem getting that kind of money for it.

i retimed the car yesterday, i was a tooth off on the exhaust side. no more misfiring. the thing runs crazely smooth now

Nice job I have a buick t-type V6 Tubo that I plan on rebuilding and in the looks for a DSM AWD. Very clean job
