1990 Laser RS Turbo, Help!

I am going to buy a 90 laser turbo this week, i am wondering
what mods i should do first, exhaust, cams, intake,
just throw any suggestions at me!

Exhaust will make you love your new whip a lot more than anything else. Well maby a vented bov or an intake.

NONE! Maintenance first. Change every single fluid. Tranny fluid, coolant, oil. Redo the timing belt and water pump if it hasnt been done. After that, check for any problems with the suspension, such as ball joints and tie rods. Perform a boost leak, leak down, and compression test to find out it you have a good motor and what not. After you have done your maintenance, move to free mods.

Free mods include, but not limited to, removing AC, condensor, and all the lines, hacking the MAF, or replacing with a 2g MAF and converter for the 1g. Porting the manifold and exhuast housing, and throttle body and 02 housing.

Then you can move to the real mods/money. First thing i would suggest, is a good suspension setup. Get yourself a nice spring and strut, or coilovers. Replace the shitty bushings for the motor mounts, the control arms and swaybars, and replace the swaybars as well. Then i would get a full stainless or aluminized exhaust, such as a VRS, or thermal which are great and sound good. Make sure to get a high flow cat.

Then i would move onto getting hard piping for the intercooler. Here, you can stay with the side mount or get a front mount. I would just go ahead and get a front mount from punishment and call it a day.

Next, and most importantly, before modding any further, you NEED someway to tune the car. All the mods after already said, you will need to see what exactly the engine is doing and performing. You can pick up a pocket palm and mmcd software to log and a dsmchip from Jeff, or go with dsmlink, which is the all in one. The pocket palm and chip will be much cheaper, but you will have to also pick up a AFC to "TUNE" with.

I would start searching the forums about fuel upgrades, dsmlink or palm software to log and AFC, and also, boost controllers, boost guages and widebands. I just went over some brief things. Plan on searching for hours trying to find what to do first. But, i jsut gave you a good 50 hours of work already.

+1 on Maintenance. What I did when I got mine-did the belts first thing, then tires. Coming up is brakes. .. things to keep it running and road worthy.

..then slow down and count your pennies and take steps at a time what you want to do with the thing.

maintnance b4 mods. do a timing belt job first , new plugs, wires, filters, etc. then id do intake, exhaust, mbc, and see how you like it, maybe even a 16g turbo and 190lpg fuel pump and hot wire kit. that should make most people smile.

okay im going to go and check out my laser turbo tm.
this is everything he says it has and is wrong and what hes done.

he said he just dropped the motor in with machined head, new gasket, belts, tensioner and timed it.

brakes need to be bled and the shift linkage adjusted (shifts to all forward gears fine but is hard to get it into reverse).

he says it squels on startup he thinks its a roller for the belts. (giving me new ones with car)

new o2 sensor, manual boost controller and gauge, has a 2g exahust manifold.

new NGK plugs

140k on the body, he says unkown miles for the motor, he says is has cross hatches in the bores and frost plugs look recent, and when he did a compression test it came out good.

just thought id give you update on the Laser.
