Hey,
I just recently purchased a 1990 Eclipse GSX for $2,000. The engine had 110k miles on it. The car, as you can see from the picture, is freaking beauitful, it has original 1990 paint and was garaged every day of its life. The reason I got it for $2,000 was on the test drive of the car it ate "timing belt B" and got the car WAY out of time, and in turn, bent all the valves. Since, I have rebuilt/remanufatured the head of the car, replaced all gaskets and a new exhaust manifold and the ENTIRE ignition system. The car had a non-turbo fuel pressure regulator on it, boost controller, autometer boost gauge and a K&N filter. The car was running great, I just finished rebuilding it about 2 weeks ago, and last night I decided to have some fun so I punched the gas. It ran strong with 11psi up until 4700 RPM then it started 'surging' or 'cutting out' ............
immediatly I pulled over to the side of the road and checked for blown turbo pipes or visible boost leaks. None.
I read in my manual that it might need a new fuel filter. Since I don't know if its ever been replaced. I replaced it. Took it out, same thing it........ surges at 4700. I've been reading up and I think that it might be the fuel pump? Or possibly the fuel injectors themselves. Does anyone have an idea what I should check next or what the problem might be?
Thanks for you help
Matt
