1G 1990 gst cassette wont load

Hello all,

So I have a few cassettes that i wanted to listen to. Car is a 1990 eclipse gst, when I insert the cassette it just gets sprung back out. The radio works, and when i push the cassette in the radio cuts out like it will switch to tape mode, but doesnt take the tape.

I have searched all over the internet and cant find anything about peoples cassette player not working. Any help is appreciated.

The unit may need to be taken to a professional that works on cassette players.

However there are a couple troubleshooting procedures in the factory service manual that might help.
They can be found in the oem service manual i linked below

Ive got the manuals part 1 and 2 for the 1990. Doesnt really say anything as far as diagnosing. Any idea on where I would bring it to?

The mechanism can get gummed up from lack of use. You could try taking the top of the case off and cleaning any built up dirt and grease. Or send it to someone who can take it apart and do it. This place fixes stuff.

Im gonna bring this one back from the dead, I was able to fix my factory cassette by freeing up the capstan rollers. the grease had seized the wheels.

This cassette deck is so complex and well made, Mitsubishi chrome plated the mechanism. it reminds me of the Chrysler Infinity II cassette, it had to of come from the same factory. lots of the same ideas between the two.
