1990 eagle talon awd 450 hp street?track toy

I am starting a build journal for my 1990 tsi. I had a 91 gsx that was hit by a couple of bad drivers and I opted to find a shell. After a couple months of failing at looking for a 1ga someone presented me with one out of nowhere. The owner had let the motor go and started taking parts off of it for his rally car as he broke them on the courses. He cut the lower core support off, removed the roof skin and a couple of exterior pieces like mirrors and a spoiler piece.

Interior wise its spotless! Exterior was as well minus the removal of certain pieces. So I picked it up for cheap and decided I was going to make a good car out of two. The talon has 94,000 on it and was from the original owner. Ill be the second titled owner. I have since stripped my gsx to the bone, cut all panels I needed for the talon and sent her off. I started with the body work.

Trimmed the car and the donor core support to match up. Then my buddy Mike laid down a couple beads to secure it to the talon. We will finish welding the core support after I test fit the Front mount and trim. And My DOM has arrived so the cage will be going in shortly. We are going to be building tubular rear control arms, And a new crash bumper bar for the front to clear the intercooler and ad some safety to the front end as well as save weight.

Since the car has been sitting because I lost my spot in line at my buddies shop due to not ordering the DOM on time(my fault) I have been buying parts like crazy for the build. Im pretty excited to get my car back into the shop and get it caged and then to my shop for the rest of the build.

I chose to use certain holes on the core support as a guide for fitting the core support as close to where it should be as I could. i think its pretty dead on. I will be using seam sealer on all the welds after it is finished before paint.

It's been awhile since I've posted anything, I've been really busy and the car has been moving along slowly.

But here's some progress.

The morning after...

I am very pleased with the paint after the first 12 hours of drying. Not bad for not having a booth to spray in. we clear coated it 4 times. I have a lot to work with as far as wet sanding and buffing. The paint and clear came out excellent!! only reason for wet sanding is because of a little orange peal and a couple spots where some dust got in a coat. nothing that will be seen after the polishing, plus I am not looking for a show car finish. The donor roof's paint was trashed, and the metal work needed finishing.

I am not painting the entire car again. The white is actually in very good condition. We will be painting the front bumper cover to match and then cutting a little of the paint with some compound to bring the most shine we can out of her. I will be painting the undercarriage white as well as the core support with a single stage tough enamel. along with all the suspension and components underneath. If i still have the car in 5 years then I will have the car painted in a booth. But for now the paint is good enough for me.

More pics of paint work to come in the next couple of days. I cant wait to get the painting finished up so I can start to assemble this thing. I have been buying parts all winter and my garage at home is pretty full of things as well as the rest of my car. Thanks for checking in!!

Looking good man, its nice to see someone do the work and fix the body on these cars instead of just throwing them away and getting a new shell because of a little rust or something. Keep up the good work

Thanks!! For sure. This one was junkyard bound when I found it. Only has 94000 on it. It was WAY to clean to send off. Plus I live in the mountains. There are barely any of these around here. My gsx had two smashed quarters. Not my fault. This one was cut up and missing a lot but I had my gsx to fill in the blanks. I can't wait to finish up the paint and start bolting it back together.
