First time posting to the forum, hello. I've got a 1989 Mitsubishi Starion TSi that I'm swapping a 4g64 into, the engine is from a 94 Mighty Max. I've got almost everything figured out and ready, short of a wiring harness, just curious though, I know they put the 4g64 in a lot of cars, but are the engine harnesses a close enough match? I'm looking at one from a late 90s early 2k harness from an Eclipse, just wanting to know if all the connectors are the same or not? Thank you

Assuming you swapped a 4g63 head onto it then I would say it more so depends what ECU you are going to be using. If you are using stand alone (Megasquirt, AEM, Haltech, Ect) it doesn't really matter but if you are using a stock ECU (or with ECMlink) I would use a harness that matches that matches that ECU.

1990- Is it's own thing You'd want a 90 harness for a 1990 ECU but I'd really shy away from that year unless the head you got was from a 1990 and came with a throttle body

1991-1994 ECU and wiring harness will interchange

For 2g cars I believe 1995-1996 interchange and 1997-1999 but someone with more 2g experience should verify.

well, I need to swap the whole harness, the ecm plug isn't my biggest worry as I can re-pin that. my biggest concern is the connectors on the engine side from the eclipse harness are going to match up to the mightymax engine

Please post pics !! We would love to see more, I can’t provide an answer since I has no experience in the matter,
(4g64 to station) but you can always splice and make things work.
I didn't even think of that, I still have the stock Starion harness in place, I could always just splice in the correct pigtails to the old harness. thank you for the great idea!

From personal experience re-pinning an ECU plug is 10x as hard as changing some connectors.

You didnt say if you are still running the stock SOHC head from the mighty max on the engine?

If so connectors are going to be a lot different than DSM. Mightmax uses a distributor and DSM's use a CAS/Ignitor/Coil Pack set-up.

yes I am going to use the stock SOHC cylinder head, but I was planning on doing a dizzy Delete and going to a crank trigger and coil/plug setup anyways
