190 Or 255 Fuel Pump

Is there anyway you can tell what size fuel pump you have. I got one off of a friend he says its a 190. I rewired it and it is still noisy. I heard if you rewire it just denten the sound some, but it is the same or a little bit quiter.

I heard it will be louder when its rewired becuase you making the pump work harder. Not to sure. It may be a 255 if its that loud.

I thought it with stock wiring made it work harder and when you rewire it you get more voltage.

I have my 255 rewired with 10 gauge, and it is very loud. It can be heard about 5 feet outside the car, of course I dont have any back seats either. I look at it this way, the more power equals more sound.

Thanks;my fuel pump is loud. If its a 190 and is that loud I hate to hear a 255

That's odd. We just installed my 190 three days ago and you can barely hear it at idle. If the engine is under any load at all, it all but disappears. Its not rewired. If it bugs you that much, put some sound dampening material under the backseat.

It doesn't bug me I just like to know if it is a way to tell a 190 from a 255.
