18Inch Rms on a Eclipse

The next set of wheels that I buy will definitely be 18X7.5's, but I've heard from a lot of members (including some in this very thread) that 8" wide wheels will work without any rubbing problems.

How can one tell what the offset on their wheels is if they're unsure?

No they will work, but it all depends on the offset and your ride height.

To check backspacing you need to lay the wheel on its face...then lay something flat like a piece of wood or a carpenters level arcoss the back of the wheel. From edge to edge, of JUST the wheel, NOT the tire.
Then measure from the back of the lug nut holes to the carpenters level. The MORE space means the further INWARD the wheel and tire will ride on the car....The smaller the backspacing, the Wheel will stick out MORE.

So for example a 4" backspace will ride IN more than a 3" backspace. Sometimes TOO much backspace is also a problem. Then the tire will rub the control arms on the inside.

An 8" wide wheel is NOT neccisary for our cars IMO. I have a 33 x 13" wide tire mounted on 16x8's for my Jeep.So unless you plan on running 13"wide tires I would stick with 7"-7.5" wide wheels.
You actually WANT the wheel to be a little narrower than the tire. This way the BEAD will hold the tire on the wheel better when turning hard.

I have 18's and I wouldn't go less unless I could get my hand on a set of EVO IV MR BBS wheels.

I feel the same way about body kits. Except i believe there is absolutely no circumstance to use a body kit. I have never seen a body kit I've liked. They are ALL tacky.

everyone who has said that and seen my car thinks differently.

I'll admit that looks better than the average body kit but that is still VERY tacky. 2GB Eclipse's do not need a body kit under any circumstance unless its a show only car which still makes the rest of us look bad. A little lip on the front bumper would be ideal.

mine wasnt a 2gb eclipse it was a 96 talon. i saw the bc2 kit and realized it was the only body kit id ever put on my car, and the only way id put it on my car is if the sides and rear bumpers were seamless. and in any case, everyone here preaches its all about speed. my car is faster then most of their cars :)

Look at my car. I have 18" Montegi's so that should be a good diagram for you! ;)

Personally, I like more meat on my tires so I generally like smaller, but big rims. (Not over the top or too small, just the perfect size)

The looks of one individuals car has no significant impact on the rest of them.
