Hi guys, after the great success i had asking you guys for help with a o2 housing i decided to once again come to you all for my next question. I am looking to upgrade my big 16 g to a 18 g, i was wondering are all 18gs created equal? and can i get one that does not require water lines as my big 16g has no water lines? what ever 18 g you suggest it must be a direct bolt on replacement for my big 16g i am not willing to change or alter my pipes or plumbing. I was also wondering if they make a 18 g that can actually spool as fast or even faster then a big 16 g while being able to make more power at a lower psi? thanks allot guys, dsmtuners.com is the best site i every found for helping noobs. oh and in case no one recalls me from my o2 housing thread i am running the turbo on a honda crx with a d16z6 motor and am currently at 300whp at 19psi with a stock 2.25 o2 housing, my tuner says its maxed out and wants me to upgrade the turbo and o2 housing so we can safely reach my goals of 350+ whp on 93 octane. please include links to any turbo you might suggest i look into :) thanks again.

An 18G compressor is only rated at 50cfm more than a Big 16G compressor; I don't think that's enough of an "upgrade" to yeild you 50 more wheel horses.

If you're sticking with the Mitsu turbos because of the quick-spooling TD05H turbine, you may want to look into a TD05H 20G. A 20G compressor is 50cfm more than the 18G, and 100cfm more than a Big 16G. You also have the option of getting turbine clipped to flow more at higher boost levels without adding significant lag.

Remember- just because a turbo's center housing has the ports for water lines doesn't mean they have to be hooked up.

so what is the max whp the big 16 g is rated for and what is the max the 18 g is? if its only 50 cfm difference how comes some people say the 18 g supports so much more?

Real greddy 18g
If your upgrading you should go to a 20g. You will be dissappointed in the power increase of an 18g over the 16g.

obviously there a ton of flow rate charts and they are all within reason, but i will say that my MHI 18g does have coolant lines and pulls a hell of alot harder than my 16g ever did. Also my spool up time is great i am about 12psi at 3200rpm. I only ran 16psi with my ebay big 16g, and now on the 18g we are up to 20psi. just like (Gstclipse69) said not all 18gs are equal, some are similar to the 16g and use a j pipe and others dont like mine. As others said, if you dont want to change much other than the turbo then you may want to go with the bastard 20g, which i believe slowboy racing sells. correct me if im wrong
