hello all you DSM'rs out there. got a simple question and no one seems to know the answer. I own a 1998 GSX and its the love o my life. actually the second one Ive had and I want it to be the best. same goes for looks. Ive chosen the 18" Rota P45R wheel wrapped in a BFG G-force TA tire.:hellyeah: now...... I want to run a 255/40/18 size also. :hmm: Ive been to... Wheel / tire size calculator / comparer - RIMSnTIRES.com ..... to figure out my tire size, offset yada yada. and I think ive figured it out to be 20mm offset will give me about the same backspacing of a 235/45/17 tire on a 17" rota wit a 25mm offset. :D so now the question is will the tire clear everything? or will the fenders have to be rolled? or am I ####ed to roll 17"s all together? PLEASE HELP!!!!! I want DEFFINITE ANSWERS!! no "should clear" no "I think they will fit". :aha: or what I will need to do to make them fit. thank you!

You're going to hit in the front and rear. The front you can't roll, and the rear you can but you'll still hit unless you run a lot of camber.

I'm running 19x8.5" with 255/40/19 and I don't rub anything on +38 offset wheels nor do I stick out anywhere. I'm on normal shocks with lowering springs. Nobody can say anything unless they know of a 9.5" Wide wheel on a 2g first! I have 8.5" and Talon tsi PR's friend has a 8.5". So just because we don't rub our wheels or have any drivability issues doesn't mean anything since the wheels you want are 1" Wider.

Why you looking at running +20 and a 9.5" wide wheel? Thats going to stick out of the fender pretty far. Hell Prob an inch or more.

Actually someone in here put Cobra Wheels 17x9.5" Wheels on their 2g and showed photos. Wonder if they can provide info.

Rota P45R 18" Sizes for everyone's reference.
18 x 9.5 +20
18 x 9.5 +30
18 x 9.5 +48
18 x 9.5 +25
18 x 9.5 +12
18 x 9.5 +15
18 x 9.5 +35

Here's a 17x9" +35mm Setup, Take into account the size differences.

well I really really want 18s. but they only come in 9.5 wide. my only other option is to run 17's with 245's cause everyone else can run them. I would really like to see what it takes to get them 18X9.5's in there with some 255's but i dont want to buy then not fit ya know:banghead: but if the above picture is right then if the offset was at 25, that should make the backspacing about the same to where it clears like the picture above, but like he said would be about an inch farther out the wheel well...... hmm anyone else think 17's would be a easier and quicker idea? or even better yet, how about some ROTA P45F series with a 35 or 40mm offset? same look and feel as the others but gives me the option of 8.5" wide.

Wait where did you find 8.5" Wide? I got that info on the P45R on Rota's Website, showing only 9.5" wide. If there is a 8.5" Wide wheel, Go with a +38mm offset. Same as what I have. I'd stick with 18's but thats just me. Not enough wheel/tire to fit the huge fenders of a 2g IMHO. I'm going with 18x8.5" @ +38ET to match my 19x8.5" @ +38ET. And I'm on 255/35/19's. So if you did a 255/45/18 I think you'd be good. It wont stick out of the fender and it wont rub... And if it does rub you will prob just need to grind a little metal away.

**EDIT** Ignore that... I didn't read the P45F you just suggested. I agree with you now.

Run the P45F 18x8.5 5x114.3 +40. That should be only 2mm more tucked in than what I am running...

So you should have enough clearance and it will have a good stance to it. My wheels look to be only a couple MM's sticking out.

P45F 8.5X18 it is. thanks guys Ill be sure to get some pics up when I get er done!!!

I should have added that my comment on rubbing is dependent on using a lowered car, for which you should have cut bump stops. If you don't, the bump stops might prevent you from hitting fenders, but I'm not sure. I had coilovers with shorter bump stops than stock long before I had wider wheels/tires.

Wheels that come past the fender/wheel well line, I think is just ugly..

Function. Running a 17x8 +35 with a 245 series BF tire, unless one wants lots of camber, you get a bit of poke.

I get a lot of people that will argue that larger is worse than skinner for traction. However it makes 0 sense. More rubber on the ground damages traction? How? With the inch or two of extra rubber on the surface?

Rally standards.... For tracks with nothing but pavement, wide wheels with good sticky rubber is used. For tracks with gravel, dirt or Mud skinnier tires are used. IRL/CART/NASCAR/NHRA use FAT ASS wheels/Tires for traction.

OP, Go with the 18x8.5" +40. Its a perfect size!
