Hey everyone I need help on what I should get. I am replacing my clutch since it was bad and I was more then likely just replace it with an oem clutch until i am ready to replace it when i completely pull everything out this winter. So basically I have 2 grand to spend and after the clutch and flywheel which is about the 300 dollar range i suppose that will leave me with anywhere from 15-1700 left over.

Now I am wanting to run E85 so should I do fuel upgrades now? if so what do you more expierenced dsmer's recommend as far as upgrades?

Or should I get a FMIC (ETS), trubo mani (proly 2g), CAI, and a DSMlink, IDK

Or what would you do with a 91 TSI AWD with an extra 15-1700 to spend?

Thanks Seth

Yea I feel like its coming on also LOL, but Im a noob to DSM's and I personally think its a legit question for me as a noob to ask as to what you guys would think to upgrade, thats the whole point of a forum to ask for help and get your guys' opinions. I mean I could have just not asked and straight up bought but I prefer opinions and most efficient ways of doing things first.

HEY HEY HEY! Those are my few hundred dollars! Get your own! Speedy and I go way back, we be from the hood and shit yo.

Anyway, check out some build threads bro. Also I recommend going to Extremepsi and checking out some of their package deals, if you want me to link a list of general parts that you should get just send me a PM. Also, before you get DSMlink, make sure you have an Eprom ECU.

FPR, Fuel Pump, Injectors, Intake(find used), 2g MAF(find used), 2g Exhaust Mani(find used), DSMLink V3 Lite, Exhaust(just do a cheap one for now), Boost Gauge & Wideband(could probably find used), and then look into a CXRacing Intercooler kit - they seem to be decent kits for cheap.

Should be easy to find all this for under 1700.
Some of them I actually have prices for as I was planning some stuff when I was thinking of selling my car and getting a stock car: $260 1100cc Injectors through SBR, found a used genuine small mhi 16g for $200, ported 2g exhaust mani for $150, $80 for a 2g MAF, Walbro Pump $105, FPR $146, $350 DSMLink V3 lite

That's $930 assuming my math is right. Gauges might run around $150 for a boost gauge and a decent wideband total.
CXRacing FMIC kit is $1270
Intakes are around 100.
$1370

If you do it right you should be able to even have leftover money.
Put extra money into ARP Headstuds / external wastegate - overall if you play your cards right you'll have money for other goodies and still end upw ith what could be a 12 second car.

If he uses the WTB he could find some of this stuff for cheaper, he could get injectors for $200 shipped, a 2G mani for $50, $60 for a 2G MAS with pigtail adapter, he can just upgrade the hotside of the 14b to a 7cm housing, fuel pump $75, doesn't need a FPR with a 1G, and link is about that price depending if he has a Eprom or not, wideband is gonna be around $150, and a boost gauge is about $75. If your gonna go with a cheap FMIC, go with Punishment-Racing. Sounds like you have a start, I would throw a ACT clutch in while your at it even if its just a 2100 but don't forget to upgrade the shift fork or you may have the problem with it snapping in half like me and having to pull your tranny all the way back out.

With $1700 I would make sure my cars all set maitenence wise/ working condition. Especially before I go modding on it and beating the sh*t out of it. Just my opinion, I know mods are funner but maitenence is more important IMHO

1g Upgrade Path - it's there for a reason, I promise. I was a noob once as well, you can look at my profile & glance at some of the troubles I have been thru via threads I posted. All well worth it & in the end, READING the forums is your best bet all day long. Just because your a noob, does not mean another noob didn't ask first.

After Maintenece, I would do these:

Fmic w/ piping - $400
1000cc injectors - $300
walbro 255 fuel pump - $100
AFPR - $125
ECMLink - $600
Wideband - $200
Total: $1725

That's a nice start honestly, you can push that 14b of your's far. Read some threads on what the MHI 14b can do. But that leaves no room for error or for maintenece, or room after you mod & break parts. IF you want a reliable DD that is.

noob or not you have to read the rules and terms before you sign up. and the first one is use the search feature.

there is a ton of information on this forum, that you don't have to ask, you can look up and find out for yourself.

I did read and use the search function I have done lots of reading I have been reading this forum for the last 4 months before i even signed up, But I still wanted to know what others suggested as well since you all have done more then I have obviously. Plus I was seeing if I should do fuel upgrades first due to the fact I would much rather run E85 then pump gas, although no one answered anything about the fuel side of it.

But I did not see the 1G upgrade path at all until it was linked for me

e85 is very corrosive to your stock fuel lines etc. i highly recommend for your fuel side, if you plan on running e85, to change out your stock lines to all -6an, and to get rid of the factory tank and replace it with a cell. now there have been numerous guys that have used the factory fuel systems on these cars, and only upgraded the pump and fuel pressure regulator, but I still recommend a complete fuel system from tank to rail back to tank.

is e85 plentiful in st louis?

That used to be the case but automakers have long since changed the material of the fuel lines in cars to meet many states' requirements of 10% ethanol at gasoline pumps.

ethanol has been in gas since around the 80's. just recently have they been putting the stickers on the pump to make their customers aware. but think about how old you lines are and you plan on running e85, they won't last as long as they already have, and plus buying lines ain't expensive unless you go stainless braided.

Injectors and fuel pump were already mentioned more than once. All you need for E85 is injectors, pump, and a way to tune -- basically the same things you need to run decent boost with gas. The only difference for E85 vs gas is that you need injectors that are a bit bigger.

I don't see anything wrong with upgraded fuel lines and if you have the money then I say "do it". But I wouldn't discourage people from switching to e85 just because they don't have upgraded lines. There's a member on here running mid 10s on stock fuel lines and fuel filter.

Not arguing about how great upgraded lines are as you can see from this thread that there's A LOT more fuel to be had even with the stock fuel pump if everything else is upgraded, I just don't see it as a necessity to run e85.

wow ive used both those clutchs and there trash the only one thats piss poor cheap thats really good is the f1 clutchs. do a good search they have good review 90% of the time all the other ones are a 50-50 at best

Ok first of all, no need to go e85 when your bone stock and on a 14b.
This is what you need to do first is figure our your goals for the car. What you want it to do for you. Then you can make your decisions.
fmic, 2g maf, 2g manifold or fp manifold, intake pipe (fp are cheap), 16g turbo possibly or bigger.
However before you do anything you should do maintenance FIRST. Also it all depends on how far you want to go into this.
Depending on what you decide I would get a SMIM and some cams off the bat and get the good stuff on there.
Also a walbro 190 fuel pump should be fine or even a 255. On a 1g no need for a 6an fuel line either.

you get what you pay for. trust me.

I hate when people say that, as it's been proven time and time again that cheaper can actually be better.

i will agree with you on certain things. like intercoolers for example. ebay intercoolers work amazingly well, hence greddy getting out of the intercooler game.

but when you are going for a vital component of your drivetrain, i would never rock something cheap. specially if you want to make power and not grenade a clutch disc at 6k while you are launching.
