17 second car need help going faster?

You wont ever have a fast car. Even with turbo or nitrous. On turbo like others pointed out you won't be able to run but about 5-8 psi max. the high compression pistons won't allow it. I new a mechanic who tried this for shits and giggles and every time he boosted over 8 psi he would blow the head gasket. He tried it 3 times just to be sure. you will run times of about 15.2-15.5 which can be had with a stock turbo car. which does not make sense to dump hundreds of dollars on your non-turbo and for it to justify a low 15 sec. time. And before someone says that there are plenty of n/a out there that are fast, yes its true there is but these are built 420a motors not stock. I have a friend that has a built 420a with a t3/t4 turbo and runs 13's so it is possible but not on a small budget and far from stock at that. Like others suggested there is nothing wrong with having a n/a dsm but don't expect to be fast on a budget. my opinion, like others say, pay off your car enjoy a dependable n/a dsm and buy a 1g turbo to play with. believe me owning a turbo dsm, you are gonna need a second car.

Sorry for making YOU look bad. I guess if you have such a big problem with it, then write a complaint letter to Diamond STar Motors telling them what a bunch of boobs they are. I'm sure they'll understand where you're coming from. EIther that or write to the moderators and tell them that N/T shouldn't allowd to be a part of this website becuase they will never be as fast as a Turbo DSM. DUH!

anyways...
I have the same problem with my car. It'a a 17 sec. car, but you can't ecpect to much from it. But atleast yours isn't an auto trans. THAT is frustrating. You would save more money in the long run though if you just let yourself pay off the N/T, use it as a beater car, and get a 1g turbo for your track whip. I'm in the same boat as you being 21 and not a lot of funds available to work with. IMO best thing to do is just be patient, wait it out, and use all of the money you saved, for something that is worrth the doe $$$. Good luck in your decisions.

It's totally true!!

I had a 95 ESi w/ Injen CAI and Thermal R&D exhaust.........it helped a bit but I realized if it was speed I was after then I'd have to get a turbo model.

Selling that ESi and buying the GS-T was the best/smartest descision.

Wow I haven't seen this thread in a while. Well I ran into some serious insurance money, and got me a built motor for my 420a, and turbo'd it if you can't tell. I haven't dyno'd the new motor yet, but I'll be running an e-mange and e-01 boost controller.
Haven't been to the track with it either.

My advice to my fellow slower NT's, really unless you plan on spending dough, or have a second car like I do to drive around in, or plan on building this motor as a project. You might want a turbo dsm.

I actually found the only car I would consider an upgrade too. (white 99gsx tan leather interior 5spd) Bascically my car with an X added to the badge. Only problem is the car was going for $11000 and at that point, my car wasn't paid off, and I priced out how much it was going to cost to trade up to it and lose all my mods (including exterior and inteior stuff) and it just wasn't worth it to me.
Granted with the money I spent on my 420a motor I could have had it by now, but then I would have had to start over again, and I'd still be upgrading my turbo and fuel mods etc. just like I would have on the 420a.

This car was definatly a learning experience to me and it was my first car, so I liked experimenting with it. I liked the idea of making a car that was extreamly slow go at lot faster than it was meant too.

Anyways the next car I get is either gonna be an Evo, or a Truck/SUV but its gonna stay relativly stock and reliable.

But honestly if you bought a RS/GS and have i/h/e and think your gonna break into the 12's or 13's with out spending the cash on building a motor, you should turn around now, because its not cheap. Its fun though.
