I have a big 16g and before I ripped my car apart for my rebuild a piece of my rubber intake came loose and the turbine wheel ate it. Messed up the turbine wheel and I found the fins in the end tank of the intercooler. My question is can I just get just the turbine wheel and have it rebalanced or do I need a new compressor AND turbine wheel, rebalanced? I only have about 130 miles on this turbo which is why I'm not buying a complete rebuild kit. Thanks guys

I think you can buy just a new compressor wheel for like $200, pre-balanced.. if you think you bent the shaft also you might be better off buying a 16g cartridge, which includes the turbine/compressor wheels and center housing pre-balanced for around $500..

Wow, that's a pretty penny. On ebay I found both wheels with the shaft for 70$. It said it was "Genuine Mitsubishi" but that price you gave leads me to believe it's a knockoff which I don't want. Where can I find MHI wheels?

EDIT* Well I found an actual Mistubishi turbine wheel and your right it's just under 200$. I'm still wondering if I can get away with just replacing the turbine wheel?

New Big 16G compressor wheels (cold side) aren't $200. I've never spent more than $130 for a MHI compressor wheel (Big 16G, Evo III 16G, 20G). The smaller wheels are even less.

TD05H turbines (hot side) retail for $199; occasionally you can find them for less. The $70 eBay special includes a Small 16G compressor wheel, so don't think you're using that in your Big 16G turbo.

You can assemble any two component-balanced wheels and you'll be fine. If a turbo has balance grinding done to the compressor wheel locknut, it has been balanced as a rotating assembly and will need rebalanced once it has been assembled. Most shops that do balancing require the turbine shaft, the thrust collar, the compressor seal collar, the compressor wheel, and the locknut to properly balance the rotating assembly.

Ok, so I have it mixed up? Compressor wheel=cold side, turbine wheel= hot side? Which ever it is I need the cold side wheel which I found for just under 200 with the shaft. Where did you find it for 130? As for the ebay special, don't worry I'm not even considering it anymore.

Mitsubishi Big 16G Compressor Wheel

You don't get the shaft with the compressor wheel....the shaft is attached to the turbine.

Oh wow I was all mixed up then. Thanks man, so let me just clear this up. Cold side=compressor wheel, which doesn't come with the shaft, the turbine(hot side) does? Again, thanks dude!

Yup.
