Quick turbo rebuild question "16G"

Just put the hotside back on. I plugged the dimple into the hole on the center section, and put the center ring back on.

Is there supposed to be a gap between hotside and center section after its on and secure? The gap is maybe 3-4mm, definitely noticeable if you look at it.

does the V band fit over it all the way? And does the shaft turn freely? if memory serves me correctly it should be about touching. At least mine was.

Yes, the band goes all the way around fine, and the shaft spins freely.

Did your rebuild kit come with a heat shield? Some do not. If your turbo did not have one to start with and didnt get one, that may explain themextra gap.

The little tin piece on the right is the heat shield. I have seen "ebay" 16g turbos that didnt have this. If that is not it, i will let someone more knowledgeable than myself chime in.

I did not rebuild the turbo, I took the hotside off to remove the wastegate flapper. This is a genuine B16G. The heatshield is in good condition.

This gap does not get smaller when clamp is secured around the housing. No carbon buildup, and dimple is in the hole.

That picture doesnt look as bad it sounded when you described it. If it were me I'd run it.

I am being plagued with a spool issue on my car. Dont wan't to get into details, but I have checked everything. After putting turbo back together, I noticed this, and am hoping this could be a cause. Not sure if that gap is enough to make a difference in boost pressure.

Looks normal to me. Look elsewhere.

Make sure if there's a little dowl or alignment pin. It's aligned correctly and it's in the hole all the way.
