I just got a great deal on a stock t-25 turbo and two 16g one of the 16g is clipped and the other isn't. What does it mean if they are clipped or not? The guy said that they were all working at the time he pulled them off. Even still i was thinking about rebuilding them (is there a place where i can kits for this?) How can you tell the differance between all the 16g's (since there are so many differant kinds). before i installed one i need to know what types of upgrades i needed to do first. The car is basically a stock 2g with a muffler and an intake. I was planning on getting a Walbro 190 pump w/ 550cc injectors, dsmlink or safc w/ data logger (can't really decide), and a greddy n1 exhaust w/ n1 downpipe (will that fit on a 16g?). The guy i bought it from said that he thought it would bolt right upto a 2g. But i have been looking on sites like SBR and dsmparts.com and they have a kit that they say you need to install 14b/16g/whatever turbos on a 2g, is that true? I know this is kind of a lot of questions but any help would be greatly appreciated as i am a big noob when it comes to turbo dsm's.

Thanks :talon:

Hey the clipped means they clipped the wheel on the turbo so its lighter and can spool faster. You dont want to rebuild your own turbo you will need to get everything balanced its best to just send it away to get rebuilt. as for the upgrade path use the sites upgrade path on the homepage. The 16G will bolt up to your manifold but you will need oil and coolant lines and also a J-Pipe. anything else just ask.

Matt's first part is wrong.

Clipping a turbine wheel will slow spool, and supposedly adds a bit of top end. It's an old process, though, since new technologies mean we don't have to cut anything.

Then I have been missinformed, but thanks.

How can you tell the differance between all the 16g's? Will the stock fuel system work or will i have to upgrade that as well? I want to run 15 psi daily and turn it up to 20 - 25 whenever i wan to go to the track or out for some fun Is there any other upgrades that you would recommend in order to do this? Is manual boost controller better than an electric one?

Thanks

You can do 15 psi on the stock injectors but you really need a 190+lph fuel pump that is re-wired. To do 20 psi you are gona need something to control the 550+ injectors that you are going to be installing way before you crank the boost past 15psi.

Clipped impeller = reduces surface area of the exhaust turbine so it doesnt spool as quickly but it will increase flow at higher rpm. This is old skool crap, if you get a good turbo like a Small, Big, or an Evo3 16g then you dont really need to clip it unless you are trying to push 25+ psi at redline. But really if you want to do something like that then go buy a GT30.

You can use a good old MBC, you really dont need an EBC. Most of use who have them dont need them. The only reason I got mine was because my Halman fell apart and I saw my Prof-B V2 on ebay for $150.

The T25's coolant lines can be reused, they just need to be bent a little bit to fit the new compressor housing.

Post a pic of the compressor covers or just tell us the #'s on the compressor cover. Thats about the only way to distinguish between the 16g variety. The evo does have a slightly different turbine housing but unless you know what the difference is, you would probably be lost.

With a fp rewire, you should be safe at 15psi on a 16g but I woulnt go any higher.

550's and an afc would be safe to run 20psi but you should upgrade the ic first. If not, you will get some knock at those boost levels and the ecu will pull timing. That would efectivley counteract any power you might have made with the increased boost levels.

If you plan on 20psi, I would suggest 550 or 650cc injectors like they said, and definately something to control you air/fuel with. The stock sidemount won't be much good with boost levels above 15 if you plan on running any decent amount of boost for more than a few seconds, the SMIC would be heatsoaked and you would essentially be putting alot of hot air into your motor, completely counteracting with your power increase after the ecu pulled your timing. In my opinion I'm not so sure I'd trust this guy saying that the turbos worked when they came off the car, maybe they did work perfectly or maybe they have massive shaft play, I don't know. But since he said that he thought the 16g would bolt right up to the 2g it sounds like he may be just trying to make a sale and some cash, regardless of your position... Just my $.02...

A 16g will bolt up to a 2g with no problems. All that is really needed is a j-pipe to make it work good. Worst case senario, you could make it work with a 1g licp without too many issues.

That's a good kit if you want to make sure you have everything you need. But you can reuse your coolant lines and oil return line if you want to. You would need a j-pipe and oil feed line though.

Cool I just looked at the serials and i got me a big 16g, small 16g, and a 14b (i thibucksnk the serial is 49178-01410 if anyonw knows). Checked all the shafts and no play :thumb: .

Not too bad for 300 bucks.

Is there anything else that i will need to make the transfer from small to big...ie injectors what not

Thanks
