Hey all, I have a quick question. I had a blown evo3 16g so I took a big 16g cartridge and installed it into the evo3 hotside and compressor housing. Now I know the turbine housing is okay to swap, but due to the different sizes of the wheels between the evo3 and the big16g, I was wondering if it would cause any spool up lag or any problems? My main issue is if it is okay to swap compressor housings? I know the big 16g wheel I have in the evo3 comp. housing is smaller so it fits but I'm wondering if the extra space would cause lag/ turbulence/problems? Let me know, and wise men chip in if you can please.

I think you'll have much poorer performance if the housing doesn't closely conform to the shape of the blades. I'm not an expert but I believe the efficiency will drop significantly from the exducer tips heating the air instead of compressing it and will cause more turbulence, which may lead to failure.

my buddy did the same with a small 16g wheel and a evo comp housing never made boost

Yes, if the wheel to housing tolerance isn't sized properly you will have more lag, and if the gap is big enough you won't make any boost at all. I'd suspect that since a B16G and E16G are so close in size, it'll probably "work", but it's not ideal. Always use housings and wheels that are matched to each other.

The Big 16G compressor inducer is .010" smaller than the Evo III inducer....that's the thickness of two sheets of notebook paper. The exducers are the same between both wheels. I don't think this would ever cause a noticeable difference in airflow.

Well that wasn't very bright. He never noticed the 1/2" gap between the wheel and cover on all sides?

he did after i asked him if he accidently threw the wrong cover on a quick cover swap later it was fine.
