14b install Q's

So I took a 14b off a laser in a junkyard. It has little shaft play. I am wanting to do to the install myself along with my bro-in-law who has no knowledge of turbos but is a genius with anything else mechanical and engines. I understand them pretty good though.

I have the turbo, the j-pipe, and all of the lines except one. What else will i need for the install? Where will i need to do a little porting? And I would like to hear some tips on doing this. --thanks

i jsut did it to my car i used a line off my t25 for the 14b that was it other than that it was perty easy a bi*** to get the mani off for the first time anyways u will need to turn your lower intercooler pipe and it will fit if its the stock one. u will need to go buy some hose about 1.00 worth other tahn that easy have fun

I am about to install a 14B also its in the maiL! i should be getting it any time? and i got the same links as above? do you tink i can find the J-Pipe at a auto parts store? and i am going to use my other lines of my t-25~! and the guy i got the turbo of is going to send the lines also so that should make everything easy! well i was wonder ? what gaskets should i change? i dont want to have no more troubles wqith my damn TURBO this is my SECOND TURBO! T-25 of course and i am like f*ck that turbo! like some one said a 9th Street ho3 hahah can suck more then the T-25~~~ HAHAHAH well good luckwiththe installand KEEP US UPdated!! and also remmeber to spray that bolt grease on the O2 sensor and maybe the exuast turbo bolts! well again good luck! and be safe! lateaz ! :laugh:

and no, you can't just find a j-pipe at a local auto store

there are been many threads on installing the 14b/16g onto 2g cars. go to www.vfaq.com and click on 2g install [ turbo ].

but here's a shortened version:
replace o2, turbo/manifold,oil return gaskets
SS oil feed line
reuse water lines from t25
reuse but file down oil return pipe
j-pipe is needed, just flip your LICP to fit it

How much does it typicly cost to upgrade a 2g eclipse turbo to a 14b or 16g, and in the stock form which would be better to start with?

If you have the money I would definately get a 16G. Even running the same boost it makes more power.

CBT - if you are STOCK., then i suggest you get supporting mods first. check on the home page for the tuning guide.

IF you are already done with stage 1 mods, I personally would recommend going 50 trim. I now have a b16g and am already BORED with it. granted I have only boost 17 psi out of it, but the car lost it's ummmmph.. maybe 19 + psi will be more fun

anywho, upgrading to a 16g [ as per SBR prices ] would cost you 680 shipped [ ported and flapper mod ] and a 200 dollar install kit. I am in favor of running the install kit because I have very little luck with used parts.. but that's just me. do a simple search for 16g and you'll find a million threads..

Oil Return gaskets (1g)
o2 to turbo gasket (metal)
manifold to turbo gasket (triple layer?)
downpipe to o2 housing gasket (I think there's one...) (dont remember)

Price a big16g from slowboy or the 2g16g from slowboy.
Then price the gaskets and an SS oil feed line if you want one.
Then call mitsu and get 2 extra manifold to turbo bolts just in case and one to replace the stud.

Add it up and then add in the price for dinner and about 10-15 more bucks for extra sockets you will break and food you will want.

Your set.
