Why is it that stock 1g's are rated at 195 hp and stock 2g's are rated at 210 hp when people say the 14b is so much greater than the t25? is it the supporting factory things such as better FI and other stuff that make the stock 2g produce more power?

2G's have more hp because they have a higher compression ratio and a few other things that I can't think of at the moment. The problem with the T25 is that it's already maxed out straight from the factory. The power really falls off at around 5500 rpm. The 14b holds power all the way to redline. It also has way more potential. Hope that helped.

So every 4g63 has the same compression ratio now? You just got the answer (which you could have gotten by searching by the way).

You see technically the t25 it is indeed a good turbo, the thing here is "future upgrades"

The T25 at wathever PSI level from factory works as good as the 14b. hell maybe even at 15 psi the t25 works good. but after that the turbo sucks. Now the 14b its good for more potential. And thats the end of the famous battle over each turbo.

Now Stock by Stock the 1g and 2g 4G63 motors have a few differences:

1G: Bigger TB, fuel rail, head ports, Inatek manifold, and better BOV
Smaller TB elbow, Smaller exhaust manifold/o2 housing, and Compression Ratio, among other I might have forgot.

2G: the exact oposite of that.

So that helps determine the final potential in Crank HorsePower from the factory:
(195hp 1g) vs (210hp 2g)

Horsepower doesn't only come from a turbocharger.!!

So really, if I wanted the best of both worlds, I would stick those on my 2g? Do they all just bolt up with porting?

2g's have 8.5 compression, compared to 1g's 7.8, 1g is beter motor all around, and every 1 who swa[s 2g pistons in 6 bolts, it is the dumbest thing you can do, they are higher compression, but thats it. the ring placement is terrible, they are not good for nearly as much HP, as 1g pistons, but for some reason people continue to put thoose in, and it's stupid. :tease: :nono:

Ok, technically there are two different types of 4g63 engines. There's the first generation 4g63 that is used in all turbo 1G dsm's. It is referred to as a 6 bolt motor. The 2G turbo dsm's have a updated 4g63 engine with some better and some worse parts which are mentioned above. It is configured a little differently and is called a 7 bolt. The 7 bolt is known to have a problem called crankwalk. This is VERY rare and one shouldn't really worry about it unless they actually have it for sure. Lot's of 2G dsm owner's swap their 7 bolts for 6 bolts because it has much more potential and doesn't have that rare chance of getting crankwalk.

Also, about the compression ratio. When the mitsu engineers updated the 4g63 engines for the 2nd generation they bumped up the compression ratio a little bit. But they still are the same engines.

Actually 6 bolts were in DSM's from 90 to mid 92 and 7 bolts were in DSM's from 92.5 to 99....

now what in gods name would make you say that sticking 2g pistons in a 6 bolt is in anyway harmful. How about no...I compared my car to a friends 1g turbo. His stock boost level was 10 psi. While i was at 13 and dropped to 12 (leaks from the plastic stock BOV) That can also account for the few hp over the 1g's. But yes throwing on the 1g TB, Intake Manifold and Head with help your car breathe just a bit better. While us 2g's (turbo) have better o2 housings and exhaust manifolds.

WTF do you even realize that you're giving bad advice about your piston swap theory???

Its proven that a 1g rod 2g piston setup supports more power, and the reason why is because of the increased compression, so its not bad its actually an awesome upgrade.
Now about the rings... well... your just wrong. The rings do the job if you assemble the motor right.
