Hey there. I apologize if a few of my qustions are already answered however I hav a phone for internet access at the moment so I can't really research a lot. Also I have done this swap as my introduction into automotive work so i'm learning hands on and as I go.

First : I have a new 6 bolt flywheel for the 4g63 that I dropped in the car. Is the clutch and pressure plate from the 1.8 usable on the 6 bolt flywheel or do I need to replace those as well?

I have already removed the old engine harness and ecu and have new ones for the 2.0 on the way. I've done everything else that guides and research vinds have told me when doing the swap from a 1.8 to a 2.0 n/t. If there are any helpful tips that could help me get this thing done, I'd be very appreciative.

Thank you.

This will work for the F5M22 tranny worked with both blocks.

So the Pressure plate and clutch (which was almost brand new) will work with the 6 bolt flywheel that I bought for the 4G63?

Also, how could I tell the difference between a Manual Flywheel and an Automatic Flywheel?

Automatics use a flexplate, they don't have a flywheel

Will a 94 engine harness and ECU work correctly in a 92 body and engine?

Alright, just wanted to be sure as I've seen people stress that you get the same year harness and ECU as plugs are different?

Got something else to toss in.

I picked up a rather good looking flywheel from a local yard. I don't intend to use to for too long, just a short bit until I can get a good clutch kit later on.

ANYWAY, I have no experience in clutch assemblies. I have, just for reference, bolted it onto the motor to to give me peace of mind that "yes, it fits."

Anyway, I took it off and conveniently my friend works in a machine shop and they resurfaced it for me. Now, for giggles, I tried to see if the pressure plate from the 1.8 clutch assembly would fit, however, it would not.

How do you pick out a pressure plate? How can I be sure that this flywheel is even the correct one for my vehicle? I bolts on perfect, but I've seen many flywheels online that have raised surfaces which look to be specific for bolting on the pressure plate assembly. The flywheel I have only has 3 pins sticking outwards which I would suspect to be the guide pins for the pressure plate?

Any help on this would be great. I don't want to spend too much un-needed money when i'm oh-so-close to having this baby up and running.

Just curious why you would go through all the trouble of doing the swap and resoursing parts when you can just buy a 2.0 car.

Hahah. I thought that to myself when I found out that you can get a 2.0 car for less than 2k.

I picked this car up with the 1.8 in it and knowing nothing about cars. I found out the day after I bought it that the rear motor mount had been broken from the motor...So I was given the option of getting another 1.8 or a 2.0. I found a 2.0 in my areq for $200 which was running and owned by an old lady.. so I grabbed it.. but the body was horrible and the car was an automatic.

So after a couple months of research and learning as much as possible along the way... I began my swap. I'm in love with the car and I want to finish it as it has been neglected. I WOULD say that, if for some reason, someone wanted to trade with a bit of money ontop from my side, for a running 2.0.. I'd do it.. but that'd leave a bad taste in my mouth. Understand? Hah.

You are a gangster, i couldnt do it.

Lmao. Ya know... it hasn't been too much of a hassle. I'm happy with it so far.

Now...How should I go about picking out a clutch/pressure plate?

I've uploaded a picture to show the flywheel that's currently mounted. Now, I took this thing to a machine shop and they said it was in good shape save for the rust. They cleaned it up and handed it back and it DOES look a hell of a lot better than it did and it's a smooth and level as ever.

The Pressure plate that was on the 1.8 5 bolt flywheel is just a TAD too small to fit on this. Can anyone confirm that this is a proper flywheel to use on this 2.0 until I can purchase an upgraded kit?

Also, how would I go about finding a proper pressure plate? What are the specs I should look for? Will a 7 bolt pressure plate fit on a 6 bolt?

NOTE : This is not FITTED to the engine yet. The bolts are in finger tight with no thread lock applied.

Did you just pick up any old flywheel that you saw?? or even bother to ask what vehicle it came from??

Of course i'm not an a complete idiot.

A local yard has a few FWD eclipse. I called up and asked how much they'd let one of the flywheels from one of the 6 bolts go for and they said $25. So, I took it.

I'm just wanting to get an opinion from someone who has seen the flywheel off of these things first hand, ya know?

Nevermind on needing confirmation if this thing is a true 92 flywheel. I was able to find a match online, after a while of looking, and confirm that it's an exact stock match.

;D

I'm Doing the same thing hahaha... btw do you happen to know which website has the guide for the swap my computer crashed and i lost all my bookmarks and files so i was wondering if you know.. ### respond Asap..thanks

There's a PM for ya.

Alright.. last few questions...

I'm down to the final stretch. I have the new harness put in,. the ECU, the dash.. Everything. I even slapped on my exhaust manifold, polished up my trans, and just got my new clutch kit in.

There are a FEW things that I need answered.

1 : What size bolts do I need for...
A : The Motor Mounts for the 22 Transmission, Both to the tranny itself and then to the engine bay mount.
B : The Water Pump
C : The transmission mounting bolts
D : The Pressure Plate to Flywheel mounting bolts (Did not come with kit)
E : The AC steel hoses which connect to the AC compressor, or are those the same size which run into your firewall?

2 : Beneath my Oil Filter, I have 2 strange connections which I haven't found out where they go. One is a loose wire with a T shaped connection. I believe the wire is white. The other is a connection which has a plastic tip and looks like the distributor end of a V6 spark plug wire. This conneciton is very small and USED to be clear I think. What are these connections?

3 : Looking at the picture I posted above, I bought those bolts for my flywheel as all I had were the 5 Bolts from the old 1.8 flywheel. These new bolts are about 25% longer, thread in perfect... but the grade on the head is 8.8. Will these be strong enough for the flywheel with a good coating of loctite or will they just sheer in half? I don't REALLY want to go on a hunt for the flywheel bolts, so PLEASE tell me these will work... but don't lie to me. Haha.

That should be all for now. Other than these few small things, it seems like she's finally about ready to be started for the first time in a few months.

Does no one know what the bolt sizes are for the tranny mounts? I kinda have nothing to go by and I've been scouring the net for a little bit.... and unless I'm a complete idiot, I can't find a match anywhere.

ok a buddy and i have recently finishe this swap not a hard swap by any means especially if you have two garages full of parts. as for the size of the bolts i can only guess sorry thats the beauty of having almost a full junkyard of your own parts. im curious your going thrue this head ache of a na 2.0 swap? its worth the extra effort for the turbo actually its not much of an extra effort. also your flywheel is correct its an na 2.0. as for the tough spots of the swap the hardest part is the wiring harness other than that the engine bay is made for that engine. you can pm me for additional help. i can see it beeing a costly swap if you did not have the extra parts to do it laying around like we had. as it sits we have less that 1000 dollars wrapped up in the swap

Well, other than getting it to start, I'm done. I just need to know if I can use the fuel oump from the 1.8 setup now that I have a new harness and relay. I'm getting absolutely no fuel, whatsoever. =/

Just an update :

I was previously unable to get any fuel from the tank to the engine, however I have concluded that there is a short in the connection that runs into the fuel pump. When I get home today, I'll be rewiring it and getting that issue fixed.

I came to this conclusion after tracing the wires from the Relay, to the dash harness, all the way to the fuel pump. There was a short where the wire went under the car from in front of the rear driver side seat.. and also a unison short at the connection in front of the pump.

If upon rewiring the pump connection the engine starts, I'll post that update as a successful swap. ;D

Alrighty!

I ended up running a new wire through the car to the negative post on my battery and the pump fired right up. So here's my experience forth.

I pressed the clutch, turned the key, and listened as the car turned, fired, and struggled. After a few tries... it fired up. Now, I have the exhaust system removed from the Flextubing Back as it has holes in it, so I'm replacing that....point is.. it was scary when it fired up.

For some reason, my gauges don't work. The Lights on the cluster work, but none of the gauges, so I can only estimate what it was. The RPMS were Waaay above normal.. I'd say about 1500 - 1700. Now, seeing as how this motor came out of another car which I got to drive.. the car used to idle at about 1200... so I'd take it this is the same issue.

So...I checked the plugs, wires, and vaccum lines coming from the TB and found that they were ALL broken, and one of the nipples from the thermo vaccum plug were broken off. I routed them back together as best as possible per a diagram in my manual, but I couldn't fix the Thermo Nipple so I just put an F vaccum link there and ran it back up to the TB.

I haven't been able to start it again to see if it's better... but I was wondering exactly what the issue could be? I've read up on the BISS screw thing... should I go about checking that? Also... is the Thermo Valve Vaccum link NEEDED? If so.... how would I repair it? =/

This is it guys! It's at least alive... if not but a bit woozy.

Hey, I ended up having the throttle cable in the wrong position. After a closer look, it's doing fine now.

Anyway, the car is up and running. Aside from mounting the tranny and other small things, she's done. Now I just need to figure out why the gauges aren't working and it'll be golden.

Thanks a lot for all of the help. Everything has been valuable.
