Your balance shaft seized, breaking the belt .You put a new belt on and now your balance shaft in turning again when it really does'nt want tWTF!!ne of the two bearings it spins on, is probably working it's way out of it's location.Sounds like a rod knock, right. You can remove the belt and leave it off if you also re move the rear balance shaft and replace it with part #MD098626 oil pump drive shaft. You leave the front shaft in place so long as your 2 bearings are still in place. If they have spun out of place, you have to install new ones.If you want to keep your balance shafts, line uo the oil holes. If you want to remove your shafts misalign the oil holes. If the block won't accept new bearings because of damage from the bearings spinning out, you're screwed.

ok that sounds like the problem rod knock I am not that familiar with the mitsu part numbers but is that the balance shaft elimination kit or if not will that fix my problem and will it hurt to drive the vehicle now until i can get time to put the kit in it also if it makes any difference the car did run fine with the exception of the belt squeel and when i removed the timing belt it was loose enough that I probably could have pulled it off without releasing the tensioner, and when I reinstalled the timing belt I made sure it was tight could there be a problem there :laser:
