Okay guys, so i can't figure out how to get a wrench/socket around these down pipe nuts, the head of the nut is just simply to big for a whole socket to get around it along with a wrench..

I tried vice grips and everything, but it gets to the point where i gotta wiggle the down pipe around for 10 minutes, then i can turn the nut a quarter turn more..

I still have a decent size gap ... i can't tighten them down anymore without some sort of tool..

What do you guys use??

What i did was take the open end of a wrench and put it on the nut but not the way you usually would. Its hard to explain but i put it on the nut vertically instead of horizontally and put i screw driver inside the closed end of the wrench and twist it with the screw driver. Imagine twisting it with the closed end of the wrench pointing toward the ground, as opposed to like the bumper if you tightened it normally.

Also you want to tighten the nuts evenly and not tighten one down all the way before the other one. Do like 2 turns on each nut at a time after you get them hand tight and that way it should sit perfect. Hope this helps

Bolt instead of a stud then use a flat head to hold the nut against the pipe and tighten from the top, or just hammer a socket on there like i did and tighten it then wiggle it back off.

or use the wrench like a screw driver not sure how to explain that one

edit jakk already mentioned the screw driver thing
