02 sensor bad??

what are all the signs of a bad o2 sensor other than shitty gas mileage? i have been running open o2 housing and noticed my car acting up, like shutting off sometimes and not starting back up for a few minutes, and when it does it runs rich as hell for a few seconds. also, i was logging runs and my o2's were never, ever consistent? i need some feedback asap so any help would be appreciated. thanks!

if your logged o2 values went from low to high (above say .9) I'd say your o2 sensor is fine. I've never known an o2 sensor to shut off a car and not allow it to start though. What do you mean by open o2 housing, like external wastegate?

At idle your o2 voltage will jump around A LOT, which is normal. How unconsistent are the numbers? Decent acceleration should yeild upper .8 to lower .9 volts. Pocketloggers website has a pretty god writeup on o2 sensor voltages.
