i see some o2 housings have a external WG opeing. is there any benifit from this over the manifold? and is it a good idea to run a wg on the o2 housing? i like the looks of it have seen some pics and its different but just wanting some info if it would be good or bad????

It all depends on your setup and how much work you want done into it.

An external gate off of the collector would be the optimal location as it will remove exhaust from all runners equally unlike wastegates located off of a single runner. Some people say there isn't a difference at all but then again there are no numbers to back up any claims that I'm aware of. Both setups will either be using a dump tube or need custom pipe and welding to recirculate it back into the exhaust system.

The o2 location works well for DSM flanged housings (stock turbo flange style) and is much easier to have recirculated back to the intake. The only draw back is you will be required to have a turbine housing with a properly opened wastegate passage.

For example, if you have an unported 16g and are having boost creep, an external gate off of the o2 housing will not solve your creep issues because the wastegate inlet in the turbine housing is too restrictive. A turbine housing setup for an external gate off of the o2 housing will not have problems as the wastegate inlet is non restrictive.

I personally use a Holset HX40 with the bolt on housing that uses a recirculated externally gated o2 housing and I do not have issues at all.
