So this started out when I was taking the girlfriend, of course, on a trip and my car sounded like it was suddenly running on 3 cyl... I made it to a gas station and the oil was being pushed out of the valve cover. I got the car towed home and did a compression check and all were fine except #4 which was absolute 0. I thought oh crap I bet I lost a valve...... So I took the head off and low and behold theres a huge chip out of my exhaust valve. I get a new head and slap it on and start up the car.. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT! Im hearing what sounds like a huge vacum leak so I search and search for this leak and I cant find it so once again I break out the compresison tester.... #4 has 0!!!!!!!!!!!! the others are fine!!!!! WTF happened!!!!!! Everything looked cool when the head was off I dont understand how bad rings could suddenly give me 0 compression.. So what now? Part it out?

it is possible for it to give you zero if they are really bad. try a leak down test, and maybe you have to replaec your rings :nono:

I think I'm the only person in this thread wondering what happened to that big chip of the valve? Ya better hope its sitting in your oil filter instead of inside the blades of your turbo, or between the pistons and the valves, or inside the oil passages causing some freaky oil pressures, or worse somehow shaving off into your rod/crank bearings causing them to spin/lock up. Have fun :tease: :barf:

P.S. Chop your filter in half and see if it really is in there, and yeah check those rings. Thats very possible. I wish I had the money and time to replace mine when I did my head job. Good luck man!

Turned out the head i bought had a bent valve in the same cylinder that I originally had a burnt valve.... Go figure... I didnt notice it before I put it on.. I swapped the valve out and I have normal compresion now. Thanks for the advice..
