I tested my car since it wont start and it read all zero's. I did the test according to the back of the tester box. I think besides this my timing may be off maybe a half cm from the IT on the balancer. Could this cause no compression like i am seeing? Maybe a blown head gasket.

I can smell gas in the oil if that matters.

And whats would cause this? I have rust on my plugs threads. I also get a small amount of oil off each plug. And yea unless my tester which i just bought is faulty then i think its straight zeros. Any help where to go now? Engine was running a couple years ago. Then it sat until i bought it from this guy i knew for a long while. Thanks for the help.

0 Compression something is wrong.

I was still making 10-15psi with and exhaust cam timed 180 degrees out (exhaust and intake were both open at the same time)

You've got have a major ring/piston problem with an issues this big.

Um are you telling me it would have been easier to keep my other engine and swap heads? Now i may have to swap it back it with the good head? I used manpower to swap and pull these engines, I don't know how much more man power i have for this again. I should just swap it into my rx7 and go rwd.. This is one sad day people....

I did the test by pulling all plugs, putting wires in safe place so they don't shock me or anything else. Then put tester in and had a friend turn it over for a sec with the throttle floored. Came up with no movement of the needle each time.

Ive seen zero compression on a cylinder with a hole in the piston. OP when you spin it over can you feel air rush out with the spark plug removed? If so I'd suspect a faulty gauge. Try the gauge on a running motor to verify.

Well I put my palm over the top of them and got no pressure pushing up on my hand. But when turning it over you can see the cylinder head come up and sometimes gas mist comes up. I just don't know what to think. I pulled it from the box and to the car but ill check my Rx-7 compression in the morning. Its starting to get dark and my cars sit behind my trailer next to the alley. Thanks for the quick responses, I feel like i wanna cry since i have put so much work into this and wanted my first running dsm ever.

I think you need to inspect your block and make sure there isn't a hole the size of Mississippi in it.

theres no pistons in it LOL......kidding man you have a serious issue with that car. no compression at all.....you sure theres still rods and pistons in the motor??? LOL

Pull the engine for this or can i do it while its in the car?

It may not matter but the oil pan has a dent in the very bottom. If there is anything is there like an inch up it may have gotten crushed at some point.

EDIT: My original post was incorrect, please disregard it.

Did you pull all of the spark plugs and ignition wires at the same time? It's a possibility that you tested it wrong. You're supposed to pull one ignition wire and one spark plug at a time, keeping the other three still connected while cranking and testing. Because you registered zero on all four cylinders and according to your above description you might have just made a mistake while testing, unless of course I'm reading it wrong. :coy:

That's not true at all. I just did a compression check with all plugs out at the same time 175-180 on all cylinders.

Yea on the back of the tester box it says remove all plugs before threading into hole one. So even though it was my first test ever, i think i got it right. I'll make sure my tester works in the morning and if it does and i have 0 compression then i will start the rebuild/tear-down. I have maybe 3 weeks to have one licensed or i get fined 700 dollars so lets hope i can do this in my back yard with just a craftsman tool set...

Don't post mis-information like this because it's completely false. Now take your keyboard and smash your face into it until you have learned your lesson of negligence.

OP, doesn't matter which way you test, but you may be either reading it wrong on not doing it correctly. Worst case, just pull the head and check out the pistons.
