My ABS warning light is on, but it behaves in a very unusual way. The light goes out for just a few seconds if, immediately after starting the engine and pulling out of a parking space, I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and then all the way to the right. As soon as I return the steering wheel to the 12 o’clock position, the light comes back on.

This trick only works the first time I drive off after a cold start and cannot be repeated. Sometimes the light stays off for months before it comes back on. Could it be a ground connection issue?

I would be very grateful for any tips. Please note that I drive a 4G63 EU model.

Its faulty in the connector or wiring and will contact when moved. It is just like to be a failiure in the wire and nothing can be done to fix it.

You think it's the clockspring? They can be replaced.
Steering wheel clockspring? No, as thats for the use of the airbag system not the ABS system. This is a common issue and as sire move they stretch and crack inside the shielding. anything that moves wears out as a wire or covering like brake flexi lines do.

Most of the time the magnet on the end fails and cannot read the signal from the ABS ring. Some people try to redo the wiring, but the resistance must match as it relies on that resistance to match up.

Could it perhaps be a ground issue? I haven’t checked yet to see if there’s a ground cable there.

Which cables should I check specifically? Does anyone have a photo I could use as a reference?

What about the ABS fuse – could that be the problem?

OOPs, Spaced that because I got caught up with the turning the steering wheel when I should have thought about the wheels turning and the ABS sensor wires flexing as they moved. Only solution then is to replace the sensor and that's never gone well for me. They always seem to be seriously stuck/rusted in.

The chances of removal is like ZERO LOL When I used to sell the Galant knuckles way back out of the 60+ I removed only 1 ever came out! the rest were corroded in.

And now finding a replacement is -100% LOL They are discontinued and I looked into some but they were the wrong resistance for the chassis
