Just thought I'd share this experience.

5 months ago my transmission kept getting stuck in 3rd gear. I assumed it was in the transmission and something was about to give. I pulled everything apart and got a basic rebuild plus 4 spider and front Quaife. After I got everything back together my shifting problems moved from 3rd to 1st and the 1-2 gate area. I was mildly annoyed ( :hmm:) and though I was gonna have to pull the tranny again to get pulled apart.

On the way to the gym today it dawned on me the "jam" in the gears wasnt being isolated by the shifter bushings :ohdamn:. That means something was physically stopping the the shifter from moving. I pulled the console off and found a screw along with gouges in the sheet metal from it jamming the shifter.

Sometimes assuming the worst is only the most costly check...

That sucks. These type of things happen a lot when dealing with cars. I have spent money on other cars in the past only for it to be a cheap sensor or something else simple. Even troubleshooting didn't pinpoint the exact problem.

Dont feel alone, i have had a 2nd gear lock out issue on my fresh shep trans that i couldnt figure out for 1.5 years, ive replaced the pedal assembly, sent the trans back to shep, sent it to dogboxracing, they both said it was fine. I pulled it to cut the flywheel, then pulled it again to change from a street disk to a 4 puck and still no luck. This weekend i decided to change brands of gear oil from napa 80-85-90 to 1.5 quarts syncromesh, 1 quart redline mtl and the thing shifts like a honda now. I guess the 80-85-90 wt was to heavy and wouldnt let the syncros do thier job. I didnt think that 80-85-90 wt was so different from the 75-90wt the book calls for. The lock out of second was so bad i didnt think that the gear oil could do that. i pulled the trans 5 times in the last 1.5 yrs:ohdamn:, DONT USE NAPA GEAR OIL

Haha, Nice. Good fluid does wonders.

Ive done some other dumb stuff, but this was pretty silly. Its ok though, the tranny needed the refreshing, and the new front quaife is amazing plus the peace of mind with the 4spider.
