hey guys, i am having a problem and dont know what it is. well this is what is going on, my car can go any gear (smoothly) and the car can move, but it makes this kinda grinding (zap) noise when drive, aslo it mis-revs when driving. could that noise be beacause my clutch is out and my tranny is eating my flywheel? PLEASE HELP

hmm .. where to start..

1st of all, please put the year of your DSM in your car description. We have no idea if it's a 1g or 2g.

2nd, can you always shift smooth? does it go into gear just fine while you drive? how is a grinding noise and a "zap" related? is it constant? just when you are moving? accellerating? how is your clutch engagement? linkage?

just some things so we can narrow down the problem, and give you a good answer. i doubt your clutch is eating your flywheel. Mis-revs sounds electonic, not mechanical.

sorry if i forgot these info. but it is a 91 talon tsi and yea all the gears go in fine and smooth with no problem, but the main reason is that one day when i was driving back i notice a noise that sound like a supercharger coming from my tranny. It would make that noise when u start accelerating or when the car moves. it also mis-rev too when pass 3,000 rpm. I think my clutch is out and my flywheel is doing the job of grabing my tranny. Can that be y? PLEASE HELP

It sounds like you have two different problems. Do you have factory wires, a short can be causing the mis-fire under load. Or there could be other ignition problems.
A griding or whinning noise from your trans is never good. When's the last time the cluch was replaced? Maybe it's time. The flywheel might be damaged, you won't know until you take it apart.

do simple things first, before concluding with the tranny. Have you changed the fluid? i'd also check all the wiring, like DNTBLNK brought out.. your misrevs should be electrical. Is there any slippage at all when letting the clutch out.

Also, check your clutch engagement and shift linkage.
