NEED HELP... is it the clutch or tranny?

When I go to first, I have to go into a full stop and play with 1st, I have to pull it in and out of gear in order for it to go into gear. If I dont play with it and it seems like it goes in, but it doesnt, it will pop out of gear. When I finally go into gear, I have a hard time getting into second. I could go into second... as sood as I let go of the clutch it grinds or makes this weird sound. But... if I shove it into 2nd it sometimes goes in. But all the other gears work fine. I've asked around and some say my throw out bearing on my clutch is worn out. And some say that my 2nd is out and I need a new tranny. What is the real problem??

If it shifts fine into 3, 4, and 5th, then it's not the clutch. Check the shift cable adjustment. It could also be worn out syncros in 1 and 2, or a worn out shift fork, or something else related to 1+2 inside the tranny.

I dont think it would be the shift fork since those issues show up in the higher gears first, and then work their way down. Should be checked anyway for safety.

Huh? How do you figure that? There are three shift forks in the tranny, one for 1/2, one for 3/4, and one for 5th. If you abuse the 1>2 shift, then it will wear out the 1/2 shift fork.
