Yet another BOV question (not the typical one though!)

quebec,
Ok so the previous owner of my GSx was a total retard. He made a very ghetto BOV setup in order to vent (I know it's bad and I gonna fix this; ths is not my question)... He snug a large bolt in the Intake recirculation tube and "sealed" it with electric tape.... VERY GHETTO OMG :barf:

Anyways... The BOV he installed is a Turbosmart type 1. I've done some research on this BOv and found out it's fairly weak. Here's the turbosmart description

The Type 1 BOV is best suited to engines up to 1.5 litres in capacity, producing standard or mildly increased boost.

So I guess this isn't any better than the stock BOV, if not worse, right? Even though I still vent with this BOV... is it already leaking at stock boost?I haven't got my boost gauge in yet and since I've only driven my car this way, I can't really tell... I know I have to change my BOV, but can't afford it right now.. gotta wait on my tax return...

Is that BOV THAT BAD???

I was thinking of a Greddy type-S or RS... what are the differences? Does the type S make that high pitched sound even when recirculated? (I dont want to draw too much attention)
Does The RS have a recirculation kit yet (I've heard it didn't when it came out)? Either way, I plan on doing a blow-through setup in the future... I want to recirculate now, and when I get my blow-through, then I might consider venting... But for now, what's my best option? type S? RS? other?

I plan to get an AGP RS49 next year... so suggest a BOV that will hold higher boost plz!

Thank you very much! Now I gotta go find the previous owner and chop his head off.

Or you could try a Buschur Upper intercooler pipe and 1G BOV. Just for laughs, the previous owner of my GSX did pretty much the same thing sans electrical tape, but he did use a TurboXS vented BOV that slopped around the upper pipe so much it's a wonder it didn't fall out. Either the Dejon or the Buschur pipes work great and you'll be very happy with the 1st gen blowoff.

Let me know when you hunt your previous owner down. Maybe we can combine and go after mine as well. I'll bring the chainsaw, you bring the beer!

I like the HKS ssqv because it wont leak ever... That bov fixed alot of problems for me... my boost creep went away (dont know why) idle surge went away, car never died again, ran overall better.

the 1g i had was crushed and it still leaked boost alot. but 1g's have been known to hold 20+ psi so who knows maybe your 1g will hold up

so the one i have right now is worse than the stock one?

BTW, I haven't found the previous owner yet... He must be hiding i guess...

I love venting to the atmosphere! *loudly vents while sitting at his desk* ugh... I think I'll have to leave the room and let that one dissipate... :D

They always hide when they know we're on the warpath. I would think that, if anything, your BOV is as good as the stock one, but either way, I'd upgrade to something better. If you plan on running up to 20 psi the 1st Gen is a faithful and trusty unit.

Hope that helps,

Andy

save yourself the time and the money and just get the bov you want from the beginning... the hks ssqv is a very good bov, and if you really want to vent, i reccomend a maf translator with a 3" gm maf, and a tial bov. im getting an hks as soon as i can find one at a good price.

on topic: how much boost does the stock 1g bov hold if you dont crush it, i have a vice and everything, but im running stock boost right now and i know it wont leak less than about 14, but thats just my guess on what mitsu would put in it...

somewhat off topic: everyone says that getting a maft and the gm 3" is better, and i know it is and why it is, but where do you get one? (i got a 1g) and i know i read somewhere that there was a maf that could be put on our cars after the turbo, but cant remeber if it was the gm or not....is it?
