Hey guys so i just ordered a new front passenger side cv axle for my car. So i take the old one out and go to put the nice new one in only to find that it doesnt fit!!! The shaft that slides into the transmission is a bit bigger than the old one. Im wondering what they could have sent me. If its a 7 bolt axle or a FWD axle or what did they screw up so i make sure i get the right one??

Bumping your own thread is a no-no on the rules for starters...just so you know

Onto your question I really can't tell you what they sent you. Is there a parts number on the box? Who did you order it from? The one thing you do know is that it's wrong so I suggest calling whatever vendor/store you ordered it from and figuring out what it is by it's parts number, and getting the right one from there.

yes sorry about the bumpnig thats my bad. I get the rules on all these different sites confused sometimes. Alright well yes i've been in touch with them and they wont be able to try to figure it out until monday. I ordered from speedy brake & clutch. Everything looked realy good on the axle except the shaft was a little bit bigger. Anyone else with any ideas out there would be much appreciated!

they gave you a 7 bolt or 95-99 axle shaft 1gs are smaller take it back and tell them to give you the right shit

Negative. The 93-94 FWD trannies had a bigger input shaft into the tranny. All the 1gs have the same size shaft going into the hub but they beefed up the axle going into the tranny on the 93-94. (pretty sure those are the years)

I swapped a 94 motor and transaxle into my 92 shell and am aware of the size difference in axles so I got a set today for a 94 and brought them home....same size as the 92 axles.

Did I get the wrong parts handed to me by the guy behind the counter or what?

Not many people swap out a 6 bolt for a 7 bolt but I did, maybe the DSM gods are punishing me for it.

The auto parts store numbers are wrong, they computers dont understand that in 93 they switched to a bigger axle. for a 93-94 axle you have to order a 95 non abs axle. Rockauto.com was the cheapest I found

I spoke with a guy at Raxles a moment ago and he said its not that simple...95-99 axles were longer and will not fit. What he said needed to be done was to rebuild the axle with the 93-94 input side and that there is no way to order it straight up. "I build these for the dsm guys all over the world" ,he said.

Now,I could buy 95-99 axles and take those input ends of and swap them but thats a bit expensive and I didn't fully understand what the guy said as he was rushing me off the phone. He mentioned looking for a # on one end or the other that was TJ92...whatever,what a complete pain in the ass this has turned out to be.

The more I thought about what the guy from Raxles said the more I thought it was BS. I had called Carquest before my last post and the guy there told me they showed a difference in part #'s for the 93-94 and he measured the ones he had in stock that were not what I needed. He said he could have them down here by 4 so I said sure and went after work to check them out. When I got there,he put the calipers on the spline and sure enough, that was what I needed.

The difference was amusing concerning the part #,its the difference between a mitsubishi and an eagle.

If you need these axles, call Carquest and ask for 93-94 MITSUBISHI FWD turbo axles.

I told him on the phone that there should be no difference in parts, its the same car...whoever did thier parts system put it in like that.Perhaps the fact that out of all 94 talons, only .05% were turbo FWD's has something to do with the way they put it in thier system.

I'll post back with exact part #'s once the install is complete.

All of you, count the splines! the old fwd and all of the awd's are 25 spline, the 92.5 and up FWD are 27 spline, this will tell what you have and what you need.
