Yes, well, a little over a week ago, I wreck my 1997 GSX. I have been hoping and praying that the damage wasn't too extensive, but I got word today that the body shop the insurance company sent it to, has said that since the frame is bent in two places, that it should bo totalled, instead of repaired.

I bought the car, about 8 months ago. Father's Day, last year. The dealer wanted $11000 (12, after tax and title, etc). Because I was 17 then, I had my parents with me, and we managed to get $1000 knocked off, due to the fact that it had some minor dents (which the dealership had a guy come out and repair), and that the tires were low on tread. I put down $6000, and with the help of my parents, got a loan for the other $5000+. A little while after that, I had to have the clutch replaced (Cost me $1400). I started researching the upgrade paths for a GSX, and went out and bought a K&N FIPK FilterCharger. After that, I had new spark plugs put in, aswell as spark plug wires, and gave the car a tune up. Just changed the oil, and had brand new Kuhmo Ecsta 225/50R17s put on the stock GSX rims.
My main question is, is after the adjuster from my insurance company looks at it, and most likely (Which I'm still praying won't happen), decides the car needs to be totalled, how much should I be arguing for? Also, since they give you the option to keep it, or let it be totalled, what if I were to keep it, and either part it out, or sell it whole. How much would I be able to ask for it? The engine only has around 76000 miles on it. Always been serviced. It's originally from Texas, from what I can tell of the paperwork.

You wonder why insurance rates are so high for younger people like me when you have guys "opening up" their cars and roads for no reason and throwing them into a ditch.... hate to be the bad guy here but I dont really feel sorry for you.
It isn't a ditch, but thanks for your reply. :thumb:

dude, your 17? go buy a slooooowww sentra or similar. that car is toast...let it go. its obvious it was too much car for you...learn how to drive responsibly first...then you can hotrod. well, i'm glad you walked away, give yourself about 10 more years then you should be mature enough to drive a fast car.

btw,
a year ago for my 30th b-day, i finally bought myself a MINT '99 turbo spyder for $10k w/ only 36k mi. before this, i drove a nissan frontier crew cab (slow!) so your "miracle deal" can be had again and again, no biggie

And out come the assholes... Actually, I'm 18. This is my second car. My first being a 1983 Chevrolet El Camino with a rebuilt 350ci 4 bolt main small block pulled from a junker '68 Chevrolet Nova. My dad and I did the rebuild ourselves. That car was pushing 350HP, easy. So don't start with me about having a car that I can't handle. I had done that same thing on the same road, with both cars many times before, and never had a problem. I was just out of it, that night. Didn't brake soon enough, and lost control.

if you did it with an el camino you must have been goin pretty fast to screw up in the gsx. again, find a new one and at least look into doing some suspension/brake work if youre gonna do stupid things on the road. you were stock in those departments and looking to go faster :thumbdown

Why are we assholes? You wrecked your car by going too fast around a bend? There was ZERO reason to be doing this, hell, you where not even racing someone LOL.

Ok, congratz, you wrecked a car doing something stupid that you didnt even come close to paying off yet....?? *pats you on the back

WEll... First and formost thing you need to do is get rid of that loan. Buy you something cheap to get back and forward to work school what ever...doesnt have to be much. Then....I myself, if i liked that car that much. Find another one just like it, maybe with a blown motor, tranny, bad fenders ya know..cheap. And i would put all the parts off your old one back in it. That the way i would do it. the back of the car didnt look bad...the interior can be cleaned up...those tails are expensive....wing is in good shape. SAVE IT!!

Glad you were all right. It could have been worse. (glad you didn't try this w/ friends in the car, which I've seen happen w/ innocent people dying that were only along for the ride :( ). But I agree w/ the "assholes." Many of them are probably speaking from experience (I know I did some stupid stuff w/ cars in my younger years).

When your 18 you think your old and experienced, but wait another ten years then think about it.

Any thing can happen to anybody in any car, but what a waste. A GSX w/ 76,000 miles probably totaled. Everytime this happens their is a less chance of me finding a turbo GSX (not to mention you said it came from Texas).

yeah but just becuase the frame is bent doesnt mean the motor iss shot. Man you could get alot of money out of that motor alone...not to mention the rest of the stuff. :D

Come on now, we know the motor is pretty worthless, who's gonna want to take the time to swap motors only to use a 7 bolt again when you can buy rebuilt 6 bolts for cheap. I'll start the bidding at $5 ;)

Who's the asshole who
was driving on Spanish River. The speed limit is in fact 35. I was doing well over that...
and cost the rest of us a good DSM?

Stop your goddamned whining and take your medicine.

Thank your lucky stars your mom didn't meet me.

You already got far more sympathy than you deserved.
