Saskatoon,
I was driving down the highway this evening in my 1g on my way home from work. When i got back into town i noticed some power loss. then i noticed that my boost pressure would go up to 0 and no more!! I cant hear any spooling either! It isnt a significant amount of power loss but it is definatley noticable. Is my turbo blown? i didnt notice any smoke and the temp gauge was normal. If not blown, then wat is wrong?

1. Check and make sure the actuator arm has not come off the wastegate lever.

2. Remove the intake pipe and check if turbo is seized, shaft play, check licp for excessive oil.

Good luck.

OK, thanks for the help!! I decided to take it to the dealer on this one.

Why not use this opportunity to learn more about your car? This is what this website is all about. At least post back their estimate before giving them the go ahead. If you change your mind, post back. I will try and help more in detail.

Sounds like the actuator arm fell off. The cotter pin that holds it on broke on my 90tsi, causing the arm to fall off, felt like I was driving a civic LOL.

I'd take 10 minutes and look at it yourself before paying satan a rediculous amount of money to do a very easy task.

What's the actuater arm? is it the rod connected to the wastegate and exhause manifold? Mitsubishi estimated about $1000 canadian to get the turbo rebuilt if thats what the problem is. OMG

The arm goes from the actuator, the rusty thing under the compressor inlet with a little nipple and hose connected to it, to the wastegate lever, the thing you think is the exhaust manifold.

sorry if im really dumb about all of this but im only 17 and this is my first car. anyways, i didnt find any nipple or hose under the turbo anywhere. It dosnt look like anything has fallen off. Though i am looking from over top of the car. should i look from underneath?

It's ok but I suggest getting yourself a Haynes service manual tomorrow and start reading. I assume you had ruled out the $1000 satan option, I will help you but you have to do a lot of reading first.

The actuator arm is located in the middle of the lower exhaust heat shield facing the cooling fans. The end of the arm that you can see is connected to a lever, the wastegate lever, find the other end of the arm and you will find the actuator. Make sure the arm is still connected to the wastegate lever.

Ok, i have a Haynes service manual already. I have mostly just read through the tune up and maintnence section though.

Do you mean you can help me rebuild the trubo?

ok, i can see where the wastegate lever is attatched to. but the thing it is attatched to dosn't go back any farther. how long is the actuator arm supposed to be and which way is it going back? back toward the engine or back toward the radiator?

No, but I can help you figure out whether the turbo is the problem and where to go from there. First thing first, boost leak test. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html See if you can get that done this weekend. While you have the intake pipe off, stick your fingers in there and make sure the the turbine spins freely, check for in-out and side to side shaft play.

I took off the intake today and felt the fins in the turbo. They wouldn't move
so is my turbo wrecked?

Yes, the turbo is seized. You can either buy a used T25, 14b or just buy a new one. As far as installation, you can either find a local dsm shop who will probably charge between $200-$300 or you can buy tools and do it yourself. Time to search and read about turbos and turbo install, you will have to make those decisions.

You're welcome. You can post on this thread if you decide to DIY when you run into issues, just follow the Haynes manual and understand fully what you're about to do before you do it and you should be fine. Best of luck. :)
