Alright, so I got in a crash. I was merging from one highway to another but there was a line of cars going like 55. I got pissed and dropped it and pulled into the right lane (2 lane highway), right as I did this a van pulled out in front of me and hit the brakes. I slammed mine (no ABS) and pulled back into the fast lane, missing the van by about a foot. The rear end started to fish tail and I almost had it corrected but it suddenly spun around and I hit the guardrail (median) facing traffic.

My corner light is destroyed, the quarter panel is a mess and my tailight is smased pretty good.

My tires have little tread left, which I believe is the reason I couldnt correct. Also the car was really off balance after turning so quickly. I just feel like less of a driver now, Im embarrased that I couldnt correct after the rear end went out.

My question is, what could I have done to avoid the guardrail? Whenever I do the old parking lot drift in the snow I can always contol my car very well. I took alot of pride in my driving, now I feel like some idiot teenager who doesnt know what he's doing. :(

Ill post pics if I get a chance.

Step 1: Don't drive like Schumacher.
Step 2: Properly maintain your car (the tires)
Step 3: Stunt driving is not for the streets (your ebrake comment)

If you want to learn how to drive, go take some classes.

my dad knew i was going to be a crazy driver so i went throught drivers ed.. then went throught several courses at the local race track.. honestly i find if i feel i need to pratice my "skillz" find out when the next local track day is go down and be safe on the track. becuase on the track your driving much faster and there are other cars that are way faster.. and you have a lot more respect..

thats what i do..

im not gonna be a dick head and tell you not to do this and that only thing i em going to tell you is its gonan take time to be a really good driver practice makes perfect

It wasnt raining when it happened, but it had rained shortly before hand so the road was still slick.

Also please note that I wasnt driving like a maniac. I dropped into 4th, and my cars a 1.8, so its not like I was going ridiculously fast or had real great acceleration. Im just pissed because my reaction time was good when I saw the van (or Id be dead right now) and I countersteered the fishtailing, but why did the rear swing out all of the sudden?

Also, Im a little strapped for cash, so thats why I dont have new tires yet (gettin em for christmas from ma dukes)

Id like to take classes, but I cant afford that either OMG

1. Don't drive like an idiot
2. Don't let your brain write checks your reflexes can't cash
3. Go to the track and learn basic car control--tighten the loose nut behind the wheel.

Driving is just like everything else, the more you do it, the better you get. I used to think I was a great driver when I was 17, now I think I knew nothing. ;)

i dont really see any driver fault here. he passed a bunch of cars on the freeway, one merged right in front of him and he had to aviod. you overcorrected, which is what alot of people wouldve done in youre situation. this does not mean youre a crappy driver. it was just one of those freak things that couldnt be avioded. maybe its fate, you never know.

now its time to fix the car and get back in the saddles maverick.
