Alright so about a week ago I noticed some oil some out my tail pipe and finally got aronds to checking stuff. So 1st I pull the I/C piping off at the throttle body and stuck my finger down a far as possible and wipped the inside, well pulled me finger out and worse thing ever was there metal chunks. So then I unbolt the intake pipe to the turbo and see this.........

then I checked the shaft play and holy sh** there was about 1/2 inch of play up and down. Luckly I have another 14b in my garage. Now suprisingly it was still boosting 10psi and running so I'm thinking that nothing else is screwed up??? what do you think

well if there were metal shaving in ## throttle body id say it sucked metal right into the motor. it may not hurt the motor right away but over time it will. id tear the motor down and rebuild it. drain ## oil and check for shavings. you might end up scratched cylinder walls.

Man, you might get away with running the motor for a while (maybe years if you're lucky) but you can be sure there's some damage in there and it's going to need rebuilt at some point. When and how is up to you. I like to find a spare block and start putting a little money in it here and there, then just take one good 3 day weekend and swap the shortblock out. You can do it in less time, but factoring in the "it's a DSM, some thing's going to go wrong" rule, it's best to give yourself an extra day.

Well Ruth having to buy gas about every couple days but part to rebuild a motor for my awd and only getting about 200 check every 2 weeks I don't have much for the car so as long as it last untill my awd running it will be ok. And dam that dsm rule

The other day I heard a kind of grinding noise when I took off but didn't think anything of it and today on my way home when I boosted it sounded like my car was siprecharged

what does a siprecharger sound like?? i youtube searched it with no result? it sounds like a wicked bad power adder!LOL

LOL. I gave myself an extra day too. But "it's a DSM" and so far it's been 2 months and it's still off the road. *SIGH* I love DSM's.

its one of those love hate relationships. It breaks, you hate your dsm. It runs you love it. There really isn't an in between with a dsm. :|

Shavings probably would not have got past the intercooler. Test the compression of your cylinders to verify you didn't scar up the cylinder walls. I'm willing to bet you don't need a rebuild on anything other than the turbo itself. You can borrow/rent a cylinder scope/cam to see the internals of your cylinder walls to verify if you have any damage.

Good luck to you bud,

soo true! I had some stuff done and gave myself an extra week and it ALSO took 2 months for me to get it back on the road! but i love my car so it's almost like christmas to have it back.

and yeah dude i would definately check everything you can and slowly start trying to build another block.

The thing I have learned over the years is that high performance = high maintenance no matter what it is, from car to computers and even women if you are pushing it harder than you are supposed to something is gonna break or give out and if you want to keep them running fast then take some time to make sure all your basic components are solid.

It looks like the nut holding your compressor wheel came loose. Did somebody rebuild that turbo before you used it? I wouldn't worry about the metal. Clean your intake system, strap on a new turbo , and ride.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I took off my intake tube and my turbo had NO fins on it, they all got ate up and sucked into the engine and trust me, they CAN get through the intercooler and did. I had lots of oil and metal shavings at my throttle body elbow and i'm sure a lot of that crap got sucked into the motor. Compression took a beating as it fell as cylinder registered 115psi.

Motor still ran 12's after that :)

But yeah, do a compression test and see where things are at.

this same thing happened to my brother. id reccomend pulling off the oil pan and give that a good cleaning as when we did this we found a lot of metal shavings lying on the bottom of it. as to scraping the cylinder walls we didnt have any of that. either we got lucky or it doesnt happen.
