Would you replace the entire shortblock, pistons, crankshaft etc if 2 spun bearings?

I bought my 6bolt engine used on here and have spun 2 rod bearings so far. I just pulled the engine today and the rod bearing spun so much, there wasnt anything left of it and my piston had been tapping the top of the head. The head doesnt look damaged at all, but im taking it to get checked. For some reason, i have been getting seemingly bad oil circulation and i am new with engine internals, but im thinking the oil passageways and oil squirters are clogged and causing me to not get a good amount of oil and thus spinning bearings. I have metal shaving all stuck in my the oil pan, oil screen, and really everywhere. My crankshaft was damaged where the bearing spun out it looks like. I really dont have the money for this but i thought since this is my last time trying to mess with this car to get a 6bolt to run right, i should replace the whole shortblock with a new one with all new pistons etc. Since im a newbie with internals, can my shortblock internally be messing with proper oil delivery? The piston walls are fine, some slight scoring on the sides of the pistons beneath the rings. So i have a huge mess right now and absolutely need this build to come out right. Would you guys recommend getting a whole new short block, for the reasons listed? I was looking at a Stage 1 from SBR. Also i repeatedly kept getting Oil in my coolant. So im replacing my oil filter housing to see if it being crushed inside is the problem. Is it worth the extra $400 also to get a lightened crankshaft? Thanks for any suggestions.

First thing, don't get anything from SBR. You will regret it in the long run. There are countless threads about issues with SBR.

Second, your block probably needs a rebuild. What kind of budget are you working with? I see there stage 1 is around $2,200 not including shipping. For that price Brian at Mudpit could probably do a stroker motor for you.

Weigh your options and get feedback from people.

I feel your pain. I am going through the same thing right now. My cars balance shaft bearings went destroying the engine right after I bought my car. I chose to rebuild my engine, because I didn't have the cash to buy a new short block. I knew if I bought a used short block it would be a piece of crap, because that's just my luck. It's a budget build that's running about 600 bucks at the moment. If I had the cash I would just buy a new shortblock. Check out the supporting vendors under marketplace and look over their sites. Some have some pretty good deals. Also Showdown Motorsports usually has good prices and great products. They are in Toledo Ohio.
Make sure what ever you do to CLEAN ALL your OIL PASSAGES. Clean your head/take out your lifters and clean them thouroughly. Also that metal has been going through your turbo it probably would be a good idea to get it rebuilt before it locks up sending metal into your new engine. There is a guy on this forum that lives in PA that rebuilds turbos really reasonable and does a good job his name is Jusmx141. Good luck man.

What about a shortblock from these guys? I have never heard of them. CI 6 Bolt Short Block Stage 2 Eclipse/Talon 4G63 - CI Motorsports I want a block capable of 400-500 hp range.

Lusion972, I have a FWD and from what i remember reading, getting a stroker is too much torque and better for AWD cars. Is this true? I just have never looked at strokers because i thought i read that somewhere.

I just spun a rod bearing to and it ended up costing me 1200 for machining and replacing the crank. This includes full oem gaskets set, bearings for the rods and mains, arp headstuds and rods bolts. That just a basic rebuild, I found a short block from MAP Performance for much cheaper and capable of of the horsepower your looking for. Here a link MAPerformance 2.0l Shortblock (Stage 1) - Modern Automotive Performance

Im currently looking for a vendor that has a 2.0 6bolt 4g63 shortblock built and ready for 400-500hp. Heres a video of the noise the car was making. This ended up being a spun rod bearing and the piston was tapping the bottom of the head in there. Click the picture...

buschur racing is a great great company for short blocks, but a lil expensive. and for your spinning rod bearings.. get your balance shafts removed! it will take alot of the stress off your bottom end!!!! and unleash some power. the vibrations from doing this is not bad at all.

I would just rebuild it (bearings/rings/gaskets), unless you are trying to make extensive power. Obviously you need to check clearances and proper spec on your components that were oil starved.

You keep looking at multiple places that are only providing a short block for 2k and up and I have provided you with contact information for the only DSM mechanic that is trusted in all of Dallas and Fort Worth. He could build you a COMPLETE engine for probably around the same price your looking to spend on a short block.

I never understand why people want to throw money away, do it right the first time. Here is some of his work.
