is it worth rebuilding a bad 14b. the turbo has in and out as well as side to side shaft play as described by the user. and comes With exhaust housing and oil lines. for only $50. is it worth it.

I just rebuilt one for a friend, he got the special price of absolutely no $ over what parts cost. It cost $100 for the rebuild kit and $20 to balance it (prices slightly exaggerated, the guys at the turbo shop are always giving me good deals...may cost you more). Now I did all of the cleaning, bead blasting (the turbo should be throughly cleaned, if oil starvation killed it once, it will kill it again), disassembling, and assembling myself. It still cost $120 w/o tax. If you were to have a shop do it, expect $300 at the least.

Hopefully the shaft play was not bad enough to destroy the center section....this will start to happen generally around the time when the compressor wheel starts hitting the compressor housing.

Get a SS feed line too.

That is a good price for a rebuild. Generally having someone like Forced Performance rebuild your turbo will cost about $345.

In which point, you're looking at 50 bucks more, for a used small 16g.
