won't start/starts and "idles" at 5k

at first i was thinking serious vac/boost leak but that doesn't seem to be whats going on, i checked all the lines and everything looks good, i can't hear any air leaks. sitting in the car and trying to start it about 10 times eventually it catches, and when it finally starts it revs up to 5k and stays there, the first time that happened it was pulling 20lbs of vacuum. there was one VERY shaky idle at around 450-500rpm but other than that, nothing.

suggestions/thoughts/solutions/help please?

How's your ignition timing? Have you checked your timing to make sure it's correct?
Did you do a boost leak test to make sure you are not leaking?? What's the gap at the spark plugs at??

the timing is definitely correct, and i forget what the plugs are gapped to but i know its right because i checked it about six times when i put them in, i haven't had a chance to do a boost leak test yet, but i'm thinking it may be the throttle body, is that a possibility? there was a ghetto fiav blockoff that i pulled out, then cleaned and re-gasketed the whole thing, but i'm thinking that the throttle body may be the problem, is there any way to test that?

Your boost leak test will tell you if you are leaking at the throttle body and where if you feel around for it. I had a massive leak in 3 places at the throttle body. 1 where the TB connects to the intake manifold, 1 where the IC piping connects, the ISC was leaking and lastly my EGR was leaking badly too. Cause a high idle like yours and it took forever for the car to start

hey bro i would check your MAP Sensor. Mine did the Same. let me know if that helps

as it turns out i had boost leaks at the throttle body. now i just need a new throttle body

OR fixed the leaks. Also, how do you know you gapped the plugs correctly if you dont even know what they are gapped to and you checked them 6 times?

Plugs wouldn't cause this. I would fix the leaks and make sure the throttle cable isnt hooked onto something.
