Okay, so i finished an engine swap about 1 week or so ago. Everything was fine, until my recent trip to Reno (2 1/2 hour drive). A day before i left, it wouldn't go into reverse anymore. No problem, i'll take care of it when i get a chance. Then on the way home, my 5th gear would come out of gear if i left off the gas and back on again. that happened before the engine swap, but now it grinds when i put it back. but now it has to be forced in like crazy repeatedly, and 30 minutes from home, i ended up driving in 4th gear all the way home, and when getting off the freeway, it would grind into 2nd. I never had a problem with any gear before, except for reverse would be stingy sometimes as it is in most manual cars...another problem is when the car isn't warmed up, and i push in the clutch, there is a loud ticking noise.

can someone please help me out here, i have limited funds and just spent it on the engine.

thanks,
hopelessly in love with my broken baby

I'll probably get flamed for telling you this but to hell with it. If you take your front right wheel off, and the splash shield you will be able to pull the outermost cover off of the transmission. Under that cover are internals for 5th gear, I really couldn't tell ya what your problem is just from chatting on these forums, but I just tore my tranny apart and replaced my 1st-2nd gear syncros due to a good friend driving my car like a semi. At the very least you could pull that cover off just to have a look in their and see what is going on. the ticking noise could possibly be something in your housing?? I'm not sure about that.

where foes the ticking come from when you push in your clutch? If it comes from the drivers side, I think that is a symptom of crankwalk. If it comes from the bellhousing/passenger side of the car, it is more likely a throwout bearing. Have you done a clutch install recently?

Sounds like the bug nut in your trans is causing you some BIG problems do this fix before it comes outta the side wall of your trans! Go HERE then click on Drivetrain the scroll down to shifter movement fix, I can almost garantee thats your problem good luck!

Crankwalk is more of a clanky chattering noise isn't it? Sounds like it might be the TOB. I just had mine replaced cause it made the same kind of noise. It definitely shifted much smoother after the raplacement but i didn't have near the kind of problems you're having. Good luck whatever your problem.

The exact same thing happened to my tranny.....except my speedometer cable came lose and all my fluid went bye bye....I started popping out of fifth and I was pissed, then when I got home reverse wouldnt work.....by then it was to late.....a rebuilt tranny later and it ran great :|
