Won't rev past 3k

Okay, so the car sat for a week, 95 420a gs,auto, just a fiter added. I let the car sit with very little gas in it, i filled it up today drove it for a little, then went to step on it and it felt like the rev limit moved down to 3k. it wont budge any higher than 3k. will go to 3k bounce like twice an shift a gear. Anyone have any ideas? No codes at all. New plugs also.

A bad catalytic converter will act like that. Try not giving it much gas and see if you can get it above 3k (real light throttle and keep it in 1st). Even with a bad cat you should be able to creep up the speed/rpm, but when you give it 50% or above it won't go.
If you are able to do this and your cat has a flange, unbolt the cat on the motor side and push it to the side and drive it again. If you're able to stomp on it and it go's you found your problem.

Does it cut and bog? Might need a new fuel filter if that's the case.

Check your MAF sensor... I had a loose wire on a Z32 MAF on a s14 before and it went into limp mode. Sounds similar... Gl

My first guess would be MAF.

I would check the Fuel filter for any blockages.

well, honestly i let the car sit over night. started it up the next morning and it was fine

start with the basics. I just serviced a customer car for the same problem on a 4g63t
few wires were bad and pluges looked like bad.

Did a basic tune up. New Plugs n wires. Was like a new car again.

its a 420a, so no MAF. it is MAP based. im going to agree with a clogged cat possibly. you could also see how nasty your intake manifold is. before i rebuilt my freinds 98 gs, his car would bog if you punched it, but with very slow throttle input i could rev out. pulled his manifold off, and his map sensor port was almost completely blocked with some loose pieces of carbon rattling around right below it.

fast throttle input, loosen up some carbon, flung into port, no more pressure sensing.

Given that you let the car sit overnight in the central PA winter with little gas in it, I would start by putting some gas line antifreeze in the tank. You may very well have frozen lines (not as common anymore with the quality of the gas we buy, but still possible). Other than that, the above suggestions everyone else made are a good place to start as well.

You could also try running some Seafoam through the engine and see if that helps. At the very least it it will clean out some of the carbon build up
