wont boost past 4500 rpm...stutters badly...more

well, this is probably going to be kinda long, so get comfy. first, it's a 91 tsi 5 sp, 14b @15 psi, fmic, 550's, 255 pump, afpr, logger, afc, all other supporting mods.

i blew my b16g a couple of weeks ago, and replaced it with a used 14b in good condition. the car has been running great since friday when me and my friend did the swap, but today while driving i tried to boost, and it hesitated at about 4500 rpm, then boosted fine. it got gradually worse, and now under full throttle it wont go past 4500 rpm, just stutters badly. as far as i can tell all the logger readings are normal.

at the same time, i noticed the air temp reading on the logger was at 81.2 degrees. it usually stays at 80.4 degrees unless i'm in stop and go heavy ass traffic. when it goes to 81.2 degrees, it kicks the rpms up, like after a while it will idle at 2300. this has been happening since i got the car 6 months ago, and it was never really a bad problem until today. usually when the temp goes up like that, i'll drive normally for about 6 blocks and the temp will go down at idle. now it won't. it stays at 81.2.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Your car may be grounding out from the snow somewhere. It happens to my car, I'm not sure where its happening, but sometimes when I drive on wet ground, (enough to get the underside wet), the car hits a governer around 4500 rpms. Driving on the highway for 30 mins when its dry outside usually resolves the issue.

I've had this happen before due to a faulty speed sensor... a big boost leak could also cause it.

It turned out it was my ECU. The capacitor caps were leaking. If you still haven't found the problem it might be worth sending your ECU to ECMTuning. They fixed mine for $36. Testing the ECU is free, you just need to pay for shipping.

Hello i dont know if u guys already fixed the problem, but i got my car without knowing it had dsmlink and it had a limiter that was cuting my engine at 4500rmp if i did not go above a certain speed. I fixed this by setting it to 0mph after i got the software, cable and it automatically reved until red line. Just my 5 cents of input and hopefully its useful for somebody.
