I was just wondering what you guys thought of this (the kit, not the bid). Good? Bad? Positives/Negatives? anything.

I don't know why you would want to lower your compression to 8:1. If you are going to tear the motor apart, you might as well go with a forged 8.5:1 or a 9:1 rather than decreasing. Trade off with the lower compression is that you get to run higher boost. The ONLY way I would go for these is if you can get a real good deal on them. In terms of that, I mean around $100.00 including shipping.

Wiseco is a good quality of pistion. When I built my motor I did some research on the different brands and since the car is street car Wiseco was the best option. The shops I talked to also recomended wisecos. You will have to upgrade your rods to a free float pin since wiseco's are not a forged pin. I am currently running them in my car and they are working fine. I did up my compression by boring out the block 20 over and matching the pistions to the bore. I hope that helps.

How did boring increase your CR?

I have heard both good and bad things about wiseco pistons. But they are fairly popular for street applications.

Boring a block w/all other factors remaining the same, increases CR.

CR=Vmax/Vmin

Do the math and you'll find that Vmax grows faster than Vmin for increasing bore values.

the only difference is the change due to the volume in the recess in the head.

This is very small...

You're not changing the head volume - this stays constant. Only block volume changes when you bore the block - Vmax and Vmin change.

stock pistons will take anything you will throw at them, as will those.

there is absolutly no reason at all to put those in. all it will do is lower the compression.

The turbo 8 cyl celica that was kicked outta the nhra class last year for being too fast was designed and build to 7.8:1.

:confused: your talking about the CR, not the piston itself.. because we all know that isnt true

8:1 static CR isn't necessarily bad. Aside from sluggish response during spool-up, lower CR allows for more boost to be run without detonation. This is beneficial for larger turbos where high pressure ratios are favorable.

For all you know he has a 1g so 8:1 will raise his compression.

I have 2g pistons with 1g rods on my car, and this setup has worked good so far.
