Hey guys, building up my 6 bolt and id like some help deciding w/ pistons. its either Ross or Wisecos, both are close to $400, wheres the JE's are over $500, so im going with Ross or Wiseco. My car will be an everyday driven car w/ mininal track usage. Im going to drive this car alot. ive heard the Wisceos are better because they have tighter tolerances, so there will be less piston slap so that will make for a better street piston. But i dont know and thats why im posting this. thanks guys/girls for all your help. -Dan :talon:

Hey dan. Both piston brands are very well repected in our 4g63 engines. The Ross pistons have no probems runnning on the street but the wiseco pistons are more everyday street friendly and have no probems running at the track. I run ross but I would be happy with eather one. Make sure your machineist uses a torque plate to hone the bores to size. Also let the engine get to full opeating temp before you start really pushing the motor hard since the pistons need to get to operating size from heat. Do a search on ROSS and another on WIESCO to give you more info.

I recently bought the Weiscos over the Ross pistons for a couple of reasons. First, I got the Weiscos for around 350 and that their weights differ much less than those of Ross. They were all within a gram of each other I believe.

Here is a good thread on both pistons:

Somebody from Weisco was posting here with some great info.

If the car is going to be a daily driven vehicl and see minimal track usage why do you want performance pistons? Ross and Wiseco are good choices for a high horsepower carthats sees the track alot. If your plans are to do mostly daily back and forth driving why not look into 2g overbores on 1g rods that is just as reliable as stock. just my .02

I've had both and I like the wisecos better. I know theres a lot of factors involved in how a motor runs, however wisecos are generally cheaper, they seem to be more streetable / long lasting ( imo at least ) and I like the big valve reliefs. I'm not sure if the pistons are taller than a set of ross pistons would be, however I had a "situation" where my timing belt skipped 3+ teeth and nothing got damaged with the wisecos. The valve reliefs in those babies are huge.

A properly built forged motor is also just as reliable as stock...

My built forged engine has been perfect so far with zero piston slap. I am running Arias pistons on Eagle rods BTW.

I got the wisecos for a couple reasons too...

I paid 380 for them (8:1 -19CC) and they came with perfectly matched high tolerance rings.

I put all the rings to check clerances, and did not have to touch a one.

When I had everything balanced, they were all well within 1G of each other.

I also like the fact of the large valve reliefs.

I have used them before in other engines and have ben nothing but happy with them. No failures to date, and some of these engine have gone 180K +
