Ok so I know most people would say just leave it but im curious as to if anyone has ever removed the wiring (from the engine bay only) for the excess junk we (most of us again) dont have/use.

For example:

OEM Wastegate solenoid (does it have to be there with a "looped" vacuum line?
Plug/Wires for Emissions Controls on upper drivers side of firewall?
EGR Valve wiring?
The A/C Fuse Box on the Upper Drivers side of the firewall?

There are a few others that I honestly dont even know where they use to go but the thing im worried about is do these wirings need to have the plug to "close" the connection (if you will) sorry im not a wiring expert so the terminology im using is wrong and i apologize

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

i am having my engine bay painted this weekend and this is why it is all hanging there right now anyhow.

The ECU wants to see values from all those things. Most could be replaced with the correct resistance. The car could never be inspected again, and disabling most of those items -having to do with emissions control is illegal. Out here, the car could be impounded and likely scrapped. I don't know what Chicago is up to.

yep...emissions here is a big problem and a hassal when you want to go faster but some of the items your talking about like the evap canister and egr's are for emissions purposes only...you dont have to use them if you dont want to but make sure its not a sensor for the motor.

hahaha maine they will most likely impound it and instead of calling you a cab youll spend the night i jail LOL. in maine they dont like anything tampered with if its there not bothering anybody then it should remain, but if you get really bored 1 day just start cutting away LOL

Most DSMers in Chicago do not have the Emissions controls in the vehicle any longer. I am not worried about being caught. they do not check that stuff here. When i take my emissions i will have to tweak the dsmlink a bit but it will be ok.

my main question is IF i decide to follow the wires in the harness back a little and cut them (safely and tape them) to remove extra plugs and wire looms that are unnecessary will this cause an issue with the ecu? I am not very knowledgable when it comes to the electrical. I just want to be sure that none of these plugs have to "complete" the signal to avoid a check engine light or cause the ecu to behave incorrect. Such as the wastegate solenoid by the passenger headlamp it has the two vacuum ports on it and does nothing besides hang in the way. I would like to get rid of that and simplify the "mess" in the engine bay.

thank you all for the warnings and advice though

frank

Here in Florida we don't have to do emissions anymore so I took all of the emissions stuff off. :p The evap canister, egr, and anything that doesnt make the car go faster. Really cleans up the engine bay and had to be a good 10 to 15 pounds of crap. I have an aem ems though so it doesnt affect the ecu. :dsm:

If this is the case you stand a much higher chance of making you car inoperable than you do clean much up.

If you must do this then get the electrical manual for the car before you start so you can figure what which wires are for what.

The same answer from Post #2 still applies.
