Ive installed 10-15 car stereos before, wouldn't you know that the most problems came from mine....

Just got a 96 GST...... looking in the fuse box under the dash while cleaning it there is an extra 15amp fuse in this blank spot in the fuse holder (marked with an X)

------------
(note, there is also an in-line fuse holder coming off the bottom right fuse that is a red wire, but I cannot find where it runs to)

the fuse has a yellow wire soldered to it that runs near the amp and has nothing on the end but a blue piece of tape...... running back is the same color wire (starting right under the steering column) grounded by the fuse box. I tell my friend to cut it after i pull off the batt terminal and hear "snap"...... there was an arc but no fuse blown. I had to leave then to pick up my roomate from the airport. On the way the Stock (infinity upgrade) deck lit up and played the cd as normal but no sound came out, however everything else worked fine.

come a day later
I go to install the stereo out of my escort (worth more than the car of course) and as things wind down, nothing abnormal happeneing.... plug in the stereo, go to turn the car to on..... nothing from the stereo. It was getting dark so I rounded everything up and figured id find the fuse tomorrow. In the morning when I start my car..... no interior lights.... no heater fan (though the AC still turns on) and I cannot tell if the rear defrost turns on or not. Other than that, everything works as normal.

In the front of the car there is 12v going across the fuse for the stereo and about 3 for the interior light fuse..... the amp seems to not be getting power on the blue (power) wire, but the remote wire shows voltage (yellow).... these only happen when the car is ON though, not Acc. All fuses have been checked, and the deck still did not work when I took power from the fuse box with a wire around the car into the power for the amp....... im confuzzed... any ideas?

My other thoughts were that the yellow was an old amp turn on wire, the pos the power wire for it, and the yellow that was grounded was a ground.... but why doesn't the red follow the other two?

*note to self, never work on car with friends while dark is approaching

just tried to hook up the stock stereo, work in the same condition as before..... perfect except no sound.....
while I was trying to run the power wire off of the extra fuse in the fuse bank I heard the cd player face motor turn on quickly, spin the cd for about a second and turn off again by the time i could look at it..... I can't reproduce this.

The red wire coming off the dash runs up into the dash and I lose it around the left side of the guage cluster.
