i have a 90 plymoth laser and i took out the aftermarket alarm and now it wont do jack. the lights on the dash come on but nuthing. i took the colum apart and tried to bypass everything and ran a wire from the black/yellow wire right to the starter and still nuthing. any ideas please

if there was an alarm from the factory there should be a breaker or a fuse try to pull that out. there should be a fuse and a relay on the panel right by the drivers feet.relay is in the upper left set of to its the bottom one. the fuse is a 10 amp in the lower left corner second one up in the last column.

most aftermarket alarms have a starter kill relay usually wired in to the starter wire from the ignition switch in the column. take that out and solder your starter wire back together should fire right up

my 90 had the factory alarm and i just pulled the fuse and the relay after i removed the unit for the alarm system. ran just fine and made a nice high number on the dyno and got me arround a few driving days.

I re soldered the ignition wire to starter and still nothing. I'm not the best electrical guy out there if you know what I mean. It was an autopage alarm. did those come stock in dsms? I didnt think so. but what do I know. I have a feeling its a relay but i dont really know what i'm looking for. How can I tell a relay is bad?

Man thanks alot, i'm gonna go hunt these down and yank them. Its gotta be a relay since i can jump the starter and make it turn over right? i appreciate the help.

at this point i could give a crap about the horn or locks.....but i pulled the fuse, still nothing....im thinking the black/red wire under dash in the ignition harness, is the week link. i have red/black going into harness but not coming out. Possibly from the alarm being ran through that wire?

ok so i got up under the dash again and on the wiring harness from the ignition there are the wires. there is a black and red wire going into the connector but on the other side on the connector there is nothing comming out.it looks like the pin and the other side of the wire were taken completely out of the harnass but i traced the wiring up and dont see a cut or broken wire anywhere.i would think that the wire would go from the igniton to the relay?

Ok do you have a test light? or multi meter?
Make sure you ignition has a constant +12 volt (power all the time) on the big white wire key on and off! If it doesn't trace it back to its origin probably the fuse box. If it does have +12 move on to the starter wire Black/yellow. Have some one test the wire and some one try to start the car it should have +12 volts when you try to bump the starter, if it doesnt and the white wire has +12 constant you need a new ignition switch. If it does put out +12 then start in the car and trace the wire to the starter or starter relay. Also check the rest of the ignition wires they should have +12 volts with the key on and nothing with it off. I hope this helps you out it is really a process of elimination don't give up you will find it! keep us updated

ps:Auto page is a aftermarket alarm they are a very good system ive installed alot of these. are you sure you took out the starter kill relay? it should be in the colum by your ignition /key switch. what they do is take your starter wire under the dash cut it in two then wire up a relay inbetween them that is activated by the alarm hense no alarm no start you have to take the relay out and hook the starter wires back together If all else fails take the bottom of the dash and steering colum plastic out and post some pics below is a typical starter kill relay setup.

I believe that starter kill relay came out, But i didnt remove it. LOL My friend whos been helping me with the rebuild did. I'm gonna have to get him over here and find exactly what and were the things were at when he removed them. is the starter kill relay made by bosch? possibly? if so its deffinately out. this is getting very frustrating if you know what i mean. Thanks for your input. I'm gonna double check that starter kill relay tomorrow after work. Time for bed now......thanks again

also another quick question...will the car try to start with out the knock sensor hooked up? Or would that kill the starter not being hooked up?

it will run unplugged but not safe. you can knock your engine to death really fast.

Im thinking of bypassing all relays and running a sort of push button start. signal to starter, and power to starter with a switch in it. Kinda ricer but it should work. I'll just be sure to hide the button were it cant be seen. :)

i have mine connected a weird way (did it myself)... when i turn the ignition key to on position everything turns on like normal yet if you try to start it.... it will crank and crank and crank... but not turn on.... it will only turn on if i turn on my fog lights.... hahaha cant jack my sh&t...!!!! i love the fact that once someone had tried to steal it yet they could never start it... i actually saw them and let them try with no luck.... after a couple of seconds i just walk out and smiled with 12 gauge... all i saw is running and falling LOL funniest day ever

BTW, i appreciate everyones help so far with my problems. I cant figure out how to rep you guys but when I do you'll all get it! I've not roamed this sight very often ### other people say its full of jerks and shit talkers but I've got nothing but help so far! I will frequent this sight often for that. Thanks again.

thats funny! LOL, if thats your car in the avatar is it bagged or just coilovers? That things slammed!

so Im guessing it just screws into the back of the block? i need to solder the wire back together and would be so much easier on the bench than laying under the car.

coilovers.... and yep i love the way people compliment how low my car is....

I wonder if i can get my 1g that low? LOL Im planning on droppein it 2" frt and 1.7" back for now. coilovers are expensive! LOL gotta get the body work started before i go into coilovers

you can. thats the best way but it can be done while the engine is in your car as well. when you take it out its bets to inspect it. the middle of the threded part that screws into the blockthere is a small hole in it. kinda like a hollow tube. make shure thats its not all clogged with gummed up oil and crap. once you get your car running take a wrench or something hard and hit the underside of the intake manni. listen to to sound of the engin if it dont do anything and sounds the same the whole time then your knock sensor is probably bad. i hope this helps.

Just an update....I went through and double checked all relays and connections. I rehooked up all the plugs from harness to motor, cleaned up the power cable connection again to starter. I ran a new ignition to solenoid wire and POW It fired right up! Thanks for all the help and tech support again..............
