hey guys, wondered if i could use my foglight wiring on the driver side of my 1g, to run my new pusher fan. i figure thats a high load, relay'd circuit so it should work. my foglights are gone, and id like to be able to toggle the fan with the unused button

Should be pretty simple. Wire it so when you complete the circuit by pushing the fog switch the open end that will get the 12v is hooked up to the coil of a new relay(or the stock fan relay if its easier). Then power to the relay and power out to the fans.

There was a write up of a simple fan switch toggle than grounded an ecu connector. I may have it in the fav's bar. Lemme check or search

Its pin 20....... on a 2g! My bad. There IS a way to ground the ecu wire but i didnt see a method that simple for a 1g. My method will still work with a relay. Its fool proof but requires more wiring. 2g guys have it easy

well, would not the foglight circuit already be relay'd? all that current cant be running through the pushbutton. if i figure out whats the hot wire on the foglight plug thats currently hanging loose, id think i just run that to one side of the fan.

It will work, we have it wired that way on a 2G, I have it wired to my A/C on my 1G.

it kind of works. but i have to have my headlights on to turn the second fan on. the second fan is for when the first isnt cutting it, so that means to have both on, i have to run my interior fan on low, my headlights/running lights, and both fans all at once. that seems like a ton of things to run off the alternator while its hot as hell in there. i looked at the existing fan wiring for the driver side and it has four wires, im guessing this is the high speed low speed deal ive read about, gna have to read up on that,, or figure out how to trick the foglights into thinking the headlights are on constantly

Kind of a lame way to wire in a fan IMO. By adding a fan I'm guessing you want all the cooling you can get. Well, look at the wire size of the fog light wires and compare that to the stock fan wiring. On top of that, the stock fan wiring drops a considerable amount of voltage (<1v) already. There is a coorelation of amperage to airflow that I don't know off hand, but its in my notes somewhere.

I would use a relay direct to battery 30 amp fuse closest to battery and 10 gauge wire. 12gauge at the least. Trigger relay via stock fan wires, fog lights, etc.

This all goes out the door if we're talking about a 10" eBay slim. Wire that shhittuff however you feel :)

im going to rewire it to come on with the existing fan, with both on i can suck a peice of paper to the fmic even without ducting. i need to score a relay and ill run both off a 10 guage wire with the wires that currently run the puller 14in fan triggering the relay, pretty much as you described.

Your stock relay should handle the load of both fans or mine does without a problem. I have a Spal and a no-name both pushing using the stock fan relay with both fans on it. The Spal pulls about 11 amps and the no-name about 8-9 amps so its about 20 amps total. Haven't had a problem yet.

It all comes down to the situation but the OP sounds like he needs additional cooling. And the stock wiring sucks, you loose airflow with the stock wiring, as it drops a considerable amount of voltage. Sure there's no problems, but we could always have better results!
